"We have high expectations here, and we have a lot of confidence as a team. When you have those things, you don't need to be perfect or to do everything exactly right. You just find ways to win."
I wish this were a quote from Jayson Werth or Jeff Carter, but no. It's from Sidney Crosby.

Winning a Cup
Instills this sort of confidence; it’s no coincidence. They should have swagger; they just won a championship.
And the Phillies have made similar statements this season, like “Team of necessity,” (Werth), so it’s not exclusive to the Pens. Finally getting over that hump of winning the big one gives you perspective on the regular season, I think.
I hear what you’re saying, though, and that you wish the Flyers’ exhibited this same sort of swagger, but truth is, they really haven’t earned it yet. If anything, they showed too much of it last year (as admitted by Briere in an article), and didn’t have enough talent/effort to back it up. It’s easy to “find ways to win” when you have a shut down goalie, solid defense and explosive forwards.
Yeah, obviously winning instills confidence. But I still see some of the “chicken or the egg” situation here. Teams that think they’re going to win, even when they’re down 3-0 in the second period, tend to start and end games better.
Optimally, I’d like to see a mix of confidence and humility. Acknowledging that they haven’t done anything yet, while accepting that they can and should.
Basically, it was just disheartening to see this in Panotch’s weekly recap, with the Phillies and Eagles giving us the extremes (swagger and over-confidence) on Sunday.

Oh, I think the Flyers have earned swagger over the Pens…its just recently that the Pens have finally caused problems for the Flyers organization….and I still believe that we had all the right tools to beat Pitt in the playoffs last year….they just had the right guys get hot at the right times (think Biron against Montreal the year before) and we basically helped out by handing them quality chances to keep them in it…..I saw the same thing when they played for the first time this season….poor passes and lackluster goaltending, not to mention a much appreciated helper from Braydon Coburn that gave them a point up on us….if it wasn’t for that, who knows? OT winner for the Flyers???? perhaps.
I’m just not as impressed as everyone else is with the Pens….I think they have great players but so do the Flyers…the only real difference is Fleury in net for them….HELL, he is probably more important then Crybaby and Malkinstein are to the Pens.
And if you think about it, it took the Pens how many years to stockpile enough ammo to finally take down Philly? c’mon…..Pitt can swagger on deez nuts….

Good news
To help put a smile back on some faces here consider this…
They had to get how many number 1 picks in the draft to get here? And they sucked for how long to be able to do that? Considering that, and the rapidly rising payrolls they’ll face for the talent, plus poor draftng since, they will flash and go away.
