Mega-trade!
If Gagne goes on injured reserve, maybe the Flyers will deal Coburn and Jones for someone who can score and someone who can play defense.
Who those players would be, I have no idea.
(I hope Coburn rights his own ship here because he’s got all the tools to be a great d-man.)

I never thought Sbisa was all that great, but I didn’t expect that at all, either.
The trade keeps looking better and better.

Hopefully Gagne’s injury woes don’t linger like Briere’s did all of last year but I got a bad feeling about this. Doesn’t seem like we will ever seen a complete year with both Danny and Gagne in the lineup. Is there any FA out there we can try to add in the meantime?

The Sharks (and most teams), of course, don’t do anything that would embarrass the officials.
No, no, Philadelphia is only organization that does anything that might “embarrass” the poor, innocent referees.
Great idea: use Canada’s junior hockey team to honour a football team with 23 Americans on its active roster.
That’ll be sure to capture the spirit of Canadian hockey
Urgh, those green jerseys are hideous. They are wearing them honoring a CFL team? Why? So stupid…

It’s like the Flyers wearing green to honor the Eagles, or red to honor the Phillies. It’s weird.

I could see wearing red…it might hide the blood ;)

I think it’s to honor the province more than the football team. Saskatchewan has a big ugly green flag:

If Gagne goes in IR, Homer better call up someone from Adirondack. Maroon, Legein, Kolanos, Ward, somebody. (I left out Nodl and Ross since Tim McManus said they’re struggling lately). But when Betts returns, there’s no way the team can get by with only Cote in the press box for an extended period of time.

Any of those guys would do a better job on the the Giroux-Asham line than Carcillo.

Sbisa
I wouldn’t count out Sbisa yet, he is all of 19 yrs old and playing defense, where your mistakes are much more glaring than that of forwards.

Yeah, he’s not playing poorly. He just seems to not be making much of an impact. He’s a minus-1 through 8 games and only giving up 0.76 G/60. However, he’s giving up 3.5 more shots against per 60 minutes when he’s playing than when he’s on the bench. Anaheim probably just wants him to get more experience. He’s only averaging 12:37 TOI per game, and the Ducks have Steve Eminger, Sheldon Brookbank, Nick Boynton, and 22-year-old Brandon Mikkelson to fill out their bottom 3 D-men.

Sbisa is one of only two Ducks with a two way contract, with the other being Bobby Ryan. I guess they wanted to bring someone up without the need of loosing someone to wivers.

That makes no difference. He was sent to Juniors, not minors. He’s gone until the junior season ends in March.

well the ducks don’t have a minor league team so i don’t know how it works with them.

When teams don’t have a minor league affiliate, they usually scatter their players around the various teams. Dallas did that last year. The Ducks use the San Antonio Rampage as a home for most of their AHL players.

At 19...
…I certainly wasn’t at my best when it came to my job. He’s still learning to play in the NHL. He’ll be alright. That he can play reasonably well at 19 in the NHL speaks volumes.

With Kovalchuk out, I’m wondering what’s going to happen to his $100 million extension they were talking about. Speaking of that, does Atlanta plan on taking a “How to draft in the NHL” elective this semester, or do they hope they can win with one good player?

Without Kovy...
…the Thrash has only one good player in Bogosian. He’s going to be one of the top 10 defensemen in the NHL for many years. But then the Thrashers aren’t really to sharp on what constitutes a good defenseman (see Braydon Coburn…)

Sbisa to Juniors
If I understand things correctly sending him to juniors with a pro contract is a major waste since he has a pro contract this move will be wasting a year of his free agent eligibility by playing in Juniors why not send him to the AHL so at least you can call him back. I am not sure you can be recalled from Juniors. Correct me if I am wrong.

He can’t play in the AHL because of his age, if I understand it correctly.

Yeah, I read that somewhere too. Also, I’m not sure when Sbisa can be recalled, but the Flyers recalled him last year after his Hurricanes were eliminated from the playoffs.

I honestly thought I had all the rules surrounding entry-level players and juniors understood until Sbisa came along. Kids’ situation is so damn confusing.
