Ottawa Senators (8-5-2, 18 pts) at Philadelphia Flyers (9-4-1, 19 pts)
Wachovia Center - 7:00 PM EST - Philadelphia, PA
TV: CSN HD, TSN HD
Radio: 610 WIP, XM 206
This is the open game thread.
Behind Enemy Lines: Silver Seven
After yet another long stretch of off days, the Flyers will look to win their fifth straight at home tonight. Standing in their way is the former team of goaltender Ray Emery, the Ottawa Senators.
Danny Briere and James van Riemsdyk are set to play this evening, meaning David Laliberte and his three points in four NHL games will take a seat. JVR isn't 100 percent, so Laliberte won't be sent back to the Phantoms just yet, but barring a last minute change, he won't play tonight.
On defense, Ole-Kristian Tollefsen is still out with a mild concussion, so Oskars Bartulis will likely play with Danny Syvret. It will be Bartulis' NHL debut. With that, you can expect the top four defensemen to put in a lot more ice time this evening.
Pascal Leclaire will start opposite of Emery in the Ottawa goal. The Senators have a goals for-goals against differential of just plus-1, scoring 46 total on the year while allowing 45. They take more penalties per game, on average, then any other team in the league. It was a contentious point of the weekend, as they lost to the Devils on Saturday night while New Jersey scored all three of their goals on the man-advantage. If they are equally as undisciplined tonight, the potent Philadelphia power play should be able to take advantage. That could be the key to the game tonight.
After the jump, we ask a few questions to answer tonight.
Questions To Answer
- How much ice time do the Flyers top four defenseman see tonight? Does Pronger top 30 minutes?
- How will Emery perform against his old club, an organization that had a rocky relationship with?
- Can the Senators keep their penalties under control? If not, can the Flyers capitalize?
- How many pretzels are sold on Dollar Pretzel Night?
Tonight's game will be broadcast on CSN locally and TSN across Canada. You can listen at 610 WIP, and as always, join us here for the conversation. LET'S GO FLYERS!

That probably has just as much to do with Syvret than Bartulis.

Well, we were off for 5 days, so…
And dollar pretzel night? Is that just a cheap Knockoff of Dollar Dog night?
If anyone wants to tell me why I capitalized the ‘k’ in knockoff, Im all ears!

might be unimpressed with him now but i think altogether briere is putting together a pretty good season for himself, which he needs to.

are you doing one of those things where you add “no pun intended” to the end of a sentence with no pun in it, so that you really make someone feel stupid trying to analyze and find the pun? or am i just that dumb that i’m missing the pun?
Probably a little bit of both—but speed is supposed to be the biggest component of Briere’s game. Lay off of me, Ive been subjected to Nick Jr. all day and my brain is fried. LOL
hehehehe fair enough. i’ll take it easy on you. i just thought you might be an avid xkcd reader, and i was excited to see a potential math/science/computer geek on a hockey blog.

crosby scored the goal, too bad he didn’t score an elbow

The Devils have the same number of points as the Penguins with 2 less games played and a hot streak, I can’t bring myself to root for the Penguins, but it would be nice to see the Devils momentum get broken up.

Agreed, I’d love to see Giroux get one and start racking up regulation goals instead of just shootout ones

we need our role-players tho ….some don’t get the glamor of regulation i guess.

How about Boston and Florida are tied at 0 at the end of 3. I’d love to have both of those goalies in Fantasy tonight.
I have Thomas but didn’t play him tonight :(
by Mitchell Green on Nov 12, 2009 9:26 PM EST up reply actions
Yea that’s why I sat him. My GAA this week .is .5 because Tim got a shutout and my other goalie Broduer won 1-0!
by Mitchell Green on Nov 12, 2009 9:32 PM EST up reply actions
I also have Pascal Leclaire in a league and didn’t start him tonight, thank goodness!
by Mitchell Green on Nov 12, 2009 9:33 PM EST up reply actions
No, but he gets a shutout, right? because shootout goals don’t count
by Mitchell Green on Nov 12, 2009 9:40 PM EST up reply actions
yes sir. also, damnit. now i’m definitely gonna lose wins for the week cause i gotta bench my goalies from here on in with GAA and SV% like that….
yea but you’ll win every other goalie category.

Pretty sweet
The Devils radio has a woman as one of the play-by-play commentators. Never heard that before.
Punchless Penguins
can’t get by the Red Hot Devils ;)
New Jersey 4
Pittsburgh 1
Final
Here’s my question: Why can’t we play the Pens when they are injured and sucking a big one? Knowing our luck, the next time we play them is when they are firing on all cylinders.

So be it.
We will play the worst tasting poultry twice in Early December.
Lets beat them when they have everyone.
God forbid we have to hear all the little happyfeet complain if we beat them while they have injuries
