Thursday Morning Fly By: Primeau speaks, Win a Boston trip

Your daily dose of Philadelphia Flyers news...

  • Last night's NHL scores... Flyers 3, Kings 2 - FLA 6, BUF 2 - DAL 3, DET 1 - PHX 3, MIN 2 - EDM 6, COL 4
  • Recaps of last night's/this morning's squeaker in LA from the AP, NHL.com, the Inquirer, Daily News, Bucks Co. TimesCSN Philly, the Kings (and much more at Kings Insider), FGSB, and Flying P.
  • Several articles about Randy Jones playing the Flyers for the first time. [Inquirer] - [Daily News] - [CSN]
  • Keith Primeau speaks on living life with head injuries. [Daily News]
  • This story was posted by Geoff in the FanShots yesterday, but I wanted to put more of a spotlight on it here. Apparently, Metro Philadelphia thinks that Darroll Powe is a defenseman. I've reached out to the editor for comment, so hopefully we'll have more on this later. [Metro]
  • The Phantoms won last night 2-0 over Toronto. Tim McManus: "How do you have a winning record (8-6-1-0) when you’ve scored just 34 times in 15 games? By only allowing 37" Johan Backlund has been great. [Post-Star]
  • Adirondack has a game on Thanksgiving. Really, AHL? [Phantoms]
  • The worst call all season. And I don't think this can be topped. From Wings-Stars last night... [Puck Daddy]
  • CSN is giving away a trip to Boston for the Winter Classic. [CSN]
  • I firmly believe the Flyers are contenders; they got better over the summer and they’re used to playing without Simon Gagne anyway. They had great special teams last year, and Chris Pronger has been playing at a Norris Trophy level so far this season. [Hockey Or Die]

It’s a great paper to use to line a bird or hamster cage with. But I don’t think they actually use editors, or check facts.

I’m a big fan of the sudoku and crosswords. Really, the only reason I get the paper.

Holy shit that was a bad call, and I agree it won’t be topped. Babcock should have flipped out when Malkin didn’t get suspended in the finals and once again should have flipped out with that call. The further you behind over backwards to not critique NHL officiating the further they seem to shove it up your ass.

fuck screwed up that good line I meant to say:

The further you bend over backwards not to critique NHL officiating the further the officials seem to shove it up your ass.

Finally

An advantage to being an old person like me.

To be read aloud in a stock, "toothless old man" voice:

Back in my day, we didn’t HAVE “winter classics” like you kids do today! No sir! “Hockey games,” WE called ‘em. That’s because we didn’t HAVE any fancy “Wachovia Centers” or the like. Nope! We walked uphill to the frozen pond every day, played without helmets and we LIKED it!

Sorry, couldn’t help myself.

If it’s any consolation doubleh, I’m no spring chicken either. But I’m sure that neither of us are technically “old.”

They call me "ma'am" now

And that pisses me off to no end.

I've been "sir" for a while now

The young children who live where I work are always fond of telling me, “Mr. Michael, you have a couple gray hairs!”

What I don’t get about that atrocious call is: Even with the “intent to blow the whistle” (which itself needs to be eliminated), the official could not possibly have intended to blow the whistle before the puck went in. I’d love to hear an explanation from the NHL, since even those in Toronto said no goal. Just incomprehensible.

I’ll edit my above comment to say: “To be read aloud in Tim Panaccio’s voice.”

I remember a couple of years ago Bill Barber yelled at him during a post-game press conference about something, though I don’t remember what.

speaking of reporters what the hell happened to Ed Moran and the other more negative guy with the mustache, or Sam Donnelen (sp) didn’t they all cover the Flyers a couple of years ago haven’t seen any of those guys anywhere

Sam Donnellen still is with the paper. He writes usually bad columns every once in a while. I have no idea what happened to Ed Moran. Searching the philly.com site, it looks like he hasn’t written an article since the summer.

FYI

They are replaying last night’s game at 7pm on CSN if anyone is interested.

That goal call in the Detroit game was terrible. I mean freaking just awful. Anyways I thought we played decent last night. I thought for the 2nd period last night we were dominant. First period was about even and in the 3rd period we did what road teams flying across the country doing, held on for dear life.
