Monday Morning Fly By: Remember, 5 PM game today

Your daily dose of Philadelphia Flyers news...

  • Last night's NHL scores... NYR 1, BOS 0 - SJS 5, CAR 1 - CBJ 5, WSH 4 (OT) - VAN 3, COL 0
  • Just a reminder, today's Flyers game is at 5 PM at the Wachovia Center due to World Series Game 5 at Citizens Bank Park.
  • The Flyers have received good news on Danny Briere's injury. There seems to be a pattern of these injuries being downplayed, in which case the player is rushed back and then winds up sitting for an extended period of time. Let's hope that isn't the case here. [CSN]
  • Sam Carchidi takes a look at the Flyers even strength play. He concludes that it's not up to par. [Inquirer]
  • In Tim Panaccio's weekly notebook, he takes another look at outlawing all head shots. [CSN]
  • The Flyers haven't been happy with their mediocrity thus far this season. They aren't alone. [Washington Post]
  • There has been chatter, warranted or not, that John Stevens is teetering on thin ice this season. [FanHouse]
  • JVR and Carle = Olympians? Premature... [Gormley]
  • Martin Biron accomplished something over the weekend with the Isles that he couldn't do with the Flyers -- record his 200th career win. [Lighthouse Hockey]
  • When examining the career of a potential Hall of Famer, what kind of off-the-ice behavior can tarnish a legacy? [Mike Chen]
  • Yesterday was the 50th anniversary of the first use of a goalie mask. Read all about it. [Copper & Blue] - [Puck Daddy]
  • Habs fans serenade the Leafs out of their building with a loss... or at least they try before Toronto answers. [PPP]

That Toronto-Montreal thing reminded me of Umberger silencing the Habs fans “Ole” chant during the 07-08 playoffs.

Lesson of the day: don't start chants unless you're up by two or more as time winds down

It is far too easy for the other side to get ticked off, momentarily elevate their game, and tie the score if you’re only up by one.

I'll be right there
I'll never leave
And all I ask of you is
Believe"
