Behind Enemy Lines: Die By The Blade
Flyers_orange_medium

Black Friday, matinee hockey.  Today, the Flyers return home from their five-game road trip to face the Buffalo Sabres, only to get back on a plane to face the Thrashers tomorrow.  After playing uninspired hockey for nearly the entire road trip, today could be a trap game.  Hopefully, the Flyers take advantage of the home-ice that they haven't seen in a week and a half, and won't see for another week.

The Sabres, meanwhile, haven't won a game since they beat the Flyers back on the 14th of November.  Since then, the Sabres have gone 0-3-1, most recently losing to Washington 2-0, scoring a mere six goals.  Because of Buffalo's disappearing offense, Die By The Blade called for the Flyers to install a neutral zone trap if they want to win.  (For the record, there's no way the Flyers know how to play the trap effectively.)  Either way, this is a perfect opportunity to grab a win at home against a good team.

Ray Emery will be in net today (11-6-1, 2.57, .910) with Danny Briere serving the second game of his two-game suspension.  That means more Riley Cote!  He played a season high 5:38 against the Islanders, so look out.  Presumably (I haven't found anything), Ryan Miller (12-4-2, 2.61, .912) will go for the Sabres.

Short preview today, so after the jump, Questions to Answer.

Star-divide

Questions to Answer:

  1. How much ice time does Riley Cote get today?
  2. The Flyers are better than the Sabres at even-strength play, on the penalty kill, and the power play.  Can they show that's true today?
  3. Do the Flyers show up today, or are they stuck between lazy off day and travel day?
  4. Does Ray Emery rebound from a bad road trip with a strong game today?

Join us here for the game thread.  Go Flyers!

Considering all the football games yesterday were TERRIBLE (although, at least the Giants lost!) it would have been nice to watch some Flyers hockey yesterday. With that said, I am obviously ready to watch some hockey today.

FULL 60 MINUTES OF HOCKEY BOYS!

at the game.

I really hope we win, would be huge. And Emery needs a solid game today too.

My favorite game of the year. So much energy for this one.

BUF has to be the only team in the league that does not have any injured players. Unreal….

I really like when Richie and Asham are on a line together…

by flyrsfrk05 on Nov 27, 2009 1:18 PM EST reply actions

Every time Asham plays on a top line, he looks great. Why does Stevens not play him??

Well, Carle gets an own goal after Pronger gets Hal Gill’d. Great.

I understand that Kaleta’s job is to throw hits and get the energy up, but he is so dangerous.

by flyrsfrk05 on Nov 27, 2009 1:23 PM EST reply actions

Watching the replay, that’s gotta be a concussion. And a suspension.

Although, I will say that if Ross hadn’t of turned and had just taken the hit, he would have been fine.

by flyrsfrk05 on Nov 27, 2009 1:24 PM EST up reply actions

While true, it doesn’t change anything. Except, if Ross comes back to play, maybe the NHL deems him uninjured, and the hit not worthy of a suspension… stupid NHL.

by Geoff Detweiler on Nov 27, 2009 1:31 PM EST up reply actions

Well, if Kaleta isn’t suspended for that hit on Jared Ross — the NHL discipline system is a complete sham.

Frank Seravalli agrees with you Geoff.

Wow. “Intent to Blow” rule needs to be put on a t-shirt with a blatant sexual depiction. Because that rule is terrible.

Another wrong call thanks to “Intent to Blow.” Whats that, the third one this month? Awful…

by flyrsfrk05 on Nov 27, 2009 1:36 PM EST up reply actions

The Red Wings one was so much worse, but still. No goal, and no cross-check call on Richards is just salt.

I think it was the Leafs. The Wings blown call benefited the Stars.

This is why the team cannot afford to dress Riley Cote. They effectively have 8 capable forwards right now.

by Prometheus74 on Nov 27, 2009 2:30 PM EST up reply actions

I have nothing against Cote. But if this team wants to win, how can they justify dressing him? Nothing he does helps this team win games. The best thing he did today was stick up for Jared Ross. Except, he made a 5 minute PP into a 3 minute PP. Good character guy, but he doesn’t help this team win.

Scary news
URGENT — Golfer Tiger Woods has been seriously injured after a car crash near his Isleworth, Florida home, officials say.

by flyrsfrk05 on Nov 27, 2009 2:39 PM EST reply actions

NO!
Im sure we will hear more. Hope hi and his family will be ok

by Prometheus74 on Nov 27, 2009 2:41 PM EST up reply actions

Woods, 33, pulled out of his driveway in the Isleworth community about 2:25 a.m. when he struck a fire hydrant, and then drove into a tree at his neighbor’s property, FHP reported.

He’s in “serious” condition. That’s definitely unusual

That makes it sound like he was drunk or maybe super tired considering it was at 2AM.

by flyrsfrk05 on Nov 27, 2009 2:48 PM EST up reply actions

Florida Highway Patrol said the crash is still under investigation. It said alcohol did not play a role in the crash, but that charges are pending.

by (AXP)HBK on Nov 27, 2009 2:51 PM EST up reply actions

Gotta have one hell of a long driveway to pick up enough speed to back up into a hydrent and a tree fast enough to hurt yourself.

a combo of those two and a nice shot by connolly

by (AXP)HBK on Nov 27, 2009 3:15 PM EST up reply actions

the goal wound up not being his fault, but i like that coburn is just standing in the crease, playing with himself, staring at the puck, not a care in the world about #41 just sitting in the crease, waiting

Ryan Miller beats Ray Emery, Flyers. Game was decided in that last 3:30 left in the game. So many chances, but good goalies keep those chances out of the net
