The NHL, in conjunction with Mayor Menino and the City of Boston, announced plans to extend the celebration of the New Year's Day outdoor game by creating a free fan festival -- the 2010 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic Spectator Plaza -- outside the walls of Fenway Park.

On Dec. 31 at 11 a.m. and Jan. 1 at 9 a.m., the parking lot at Brookline Avenue and Yawkey Way will transform into an outdoor hockey and entertainment festival for fans of all ages.

During the celebration, fans will be able to enjoy a game of air hockey, have a photo taken through "Fanfoto" in the food and beverage tent sponsored by Bud Light and purchase officially licensed 2010 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic merchandise in the NHL retail area.

Now seems like a good time to ask: Who's going to the Winter Classic?

My best friend goes to Boston College. My plan was to get tickets and stay at his dorm, which would be great cost wise… But speaking of cost.. didn’t have the money to spend on tickets, especially during this time of year. Kind of regretting not splurging, though.

Gonna try too...

I probably entered about 25 contest for tickets.

Approximately 400 dollars for a below average ticket… I wish, but too many bones for my wallet.

There’s no way I could get my husband to go up to Boston and stand in the freezing cold to watch a hockey game. If I could, I would go in a heartbeat. He’s just not that into hockey. It’s a bummer.

My friend was talking Lou Lamoriello (GM of the Devils) about getting tickets but it fell through, but I’m gonna go up there any way and try to scalp a couple. I actually heard that tix for last year’s Classic were almost face value if scalped. But, if that goes to the shitter too, worst comes to worst I go to a sports bar and watch the game / drown my sorrows with Sam Adams

There are still tickets on StubHub. Bleachers for like 300, but I think bleachers are actually a good seat for this game. It’s a pretty penny, for sure, but it’s not in the thousands.

I’ll be there Thursday through Saturday, so if anybody wants to meet up, that’d be cool.

Pretty pissed. Of course the year that the Flyers are in the Winter Classic I will be out of the country, in Israel, during the game. Uhh, just my luck. I wonder what the chances are that I will be somehow able to watch it in Israel haha. Yea, thats a joke….
