Now, for the implications of the move.
This means that the Flyers have:
Pronger, Carle
Timmonen, ?
Bartulis, ?
under contract for 2010-11. They also own the RFA rights to Coburn and Parent (and Syvret, but those rights and 75 cents will get you a cup of coffee).
Might they try to lock up Parent to a multi-year deal (3 years, $4mil) and trade Coburn to get back into next year’s draft? He’s gotta be worth a mid-to-late 1st round pick. Pair Parent with Timmonen and sign a mid-level veteran from this list of UFAs (Kim Johnson? Adrian Aucoin?) and expect the insane organizational depth on the blue line to fill in the other couple spots.
Certainly, this is all speculative. They’re just as likely to raid that blue line depth in the next few months in order to fix this team via trade, and then have to resign Coburn and Parent.
And I’m not voicing a preference, either. Just thinking and attempting to lay out the various paths that this decision could lead them on.
Cap hit of $600k a year? Really?? That’s pretty sweet.

Unforeseen advantage of sending the AHL club to Glens Falls, NY? Extra leverage with the young talent.
“Please Mr. Holmgren, I’ll take the league minimum! Just let me move back to civilization!”
Daaaaaaaaamn!
Seriously, that is good news.
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
I would like to see Bartulis paired with Coburn and Parent back with Kimmo, I think Coburn can carry a pair and we can take some ice time away from Kimmo he is too small to carry those kind of minutes and gets worn out in the playoffs, but good news to lock down the 6th D-Man spot for awhile. I still think Kevin Marshall is going to be better than Parent, Coburn and Oscars.
According to Philabright’s twitter:
Bartulis’ three-year deal is being reported as a one-way contract. Seems risky for a 22-year old with less than 30 games NHL experience.I agree, not sure how I feel about Bartulis getting a one-way contract. He hasn’t been that good.
But for how little he’s being paid, I don’t think it really matters if he signs a one-way or two-way deal.

So if the Flyers wanted to send him down they would just have to throw him on waivers but risk another team nabbing him right?

I thought this went without saying…
I’m pretty sure it HAS to be a one way contract per the CBA. I don’t believe he could have a three year two way deal.
Now that you mention it, I think you’re right. But I’m not certain.
