How much would you give up for Ilya Kovalchuk
There has been a lot of talk regarding one of the best players in the game reportedly being on the trading block in Atlanta. 30 games. 21 goals. 18 assists. 39 points. He's a stud and any team would love to have him. We obviously don't have a first or second round pick this year, so we can't give up any picks, but what do you think that it would cost us, and what would you give up for him. Personally, I think that it would cost more than Hartnell and Coburn (that was the trade that I herd rumored but I didn't believe it), but if that is all I would do it in a heartbeat.
On a side note, no NHL trades can be made before Dec. 27th. Its a good rule that keeps players home for the holidays. Merry Christmas all.

I would bet more along the lines of
Carter + Coburn, or Carter + Giroux, or Giroux + Coburn + Hartnell, or Carter + Parent + a 1st next year.
Yeah, Hartnell + Coburn for Ilya Kovalchuk is something I would do in a heartbeat as well though.
Comcast just reported Carter’s staying for the year.

That’s a good point… CSNPhilly.com says they mean he won’t be traded this season, but they could easily be misinterpreting what their sources are “saying.”
They said that Homer said the entire hockey season.

Nothing. I have watched him play and he would be hated in Philly. He is Daigle with a better shot. He never plays along the wall or in the corner. He is a wimpy hockey player. Let him dangle in another town.
Phigment
This is what I'm talking about.
If we could get one of the best snipers in the game for a fair asking price, we should get him. He’s going to score 45-50 goals this year, and he scores a lot every year.
I don’t care if someone is mega-talented but doesn’t play “Flyers Hockey.” I want a Stanley Cup.
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
Because God forbid we would actually acquire a player based upon their talent...
as opposed to their penchant for gooneration. Bet you can’t wait to get Garrett Klotz in the lineup?
That same type of moronic thinking left us stuck with Briere. Pass on Kovalchuk.

No one is afraid of Briere. His idiotic stick penalties don’t really come into play in the whole goon argument. Is he good? When he’s healthy he’s a little above average, while bleeding the team dry of funding to remain on the team.
He’s basically the pure skill player that proves going for the big names bites you in the ass.

Is you think Briere and Carter are soft wait until Ilya hits the ice
I support Briere but he gets killed in this town and now so does Carter for the following reasons lack of emotion and effort, not hitting or digging in the corners. Kovy plays the same way coasting around and then pouncing, no forecheck, hitting or digging in the corners and his defense makes Breire look like Pavel Datsyuk. Also Kovy gets a shit ton of ice time over 20 minutes per game because he is the only player on that team he is ice time is going to drop down with our depth and therefore his production will go down, no more full 2 minute PP and he doesn’t kill penalties. Also despite his amazing 42 points in 32 games he is +/- is even this year and -85 for his career, Carter is -2 with 12 less points this year a + 20 for his career. I rather have a guy like Eric Staal or LaCaviler they play a similar 18-20 minutes of ice time, are extremely productive and much better 2 way players. More importantly they both have RINGS and tons of playoff experience (Ilya 0-4 in the postseason), they are locked up long term and would cost less to bring in if we are willing to take on their contracts.
Not much
If we bring him in, hes almost a lock to leave next year unless we free up some cap space by trading a high paid player (likely Richards).
If he leaves, we get nothing for him. Our our team has been really bad this year, so its not worth paying for him when were likely not going to make the playoffs anyway.
If we trade Carter for Kovy, I dont think the cap numbers would work (not sure though). I mean, if we could trade Jeff for Ilya and then resign him, I would do that in a heartbeat. Maybe we could work out that trade with the Thrashers but have it be conditional on us resigning Kovy?
