No more deals
Tim Panaccio on CSN is saying that the Flyers could still have another deal coming, considering Paul Holmgren was originally supposed to address the media between 3 and 3:30 today. The wait could mean that another deal is awaiting approval from the NHL, and that would be accurate with Sam Carchidi's report earlier that the Flyers had been granted an extension on the deadline.
UPDATE - Holmgren tells the media that the team is done. Carcillo and McLaren are the only additions, Cote is staying, and Upshall is gone. That's the deadline for the Flyers.

Another deal?
It’s 5:30. That was posted at 5:20ish? How can there be another deal coming? Lets hope.

Homer said they are done now at press conference. No 3rd deal coming (unless he’s lying).
They like their team as is, he says. Carcillo is just as good a player as Uppy he says and will be a major fan fave.
This I would seriously disagree with.

I should clarify. I think Carcillo will be a fan favorite here, but that’s not always a good thing. Upshall is a better player.

I’m tired of this team constantly bringing in bruisers. I’m tired of the fighting mentality that the vast majority of our incoherent fans bring to games with them. Fights will change the momentum of a game, but they won’t win them for you. Carcillo’s a good player, sure. But he doesn’t come close to replacing Scotty Upshall. Not a chance.
I don’t even know what to say. Jesus, I’m angry.
Let's go Flyers!
i agree. typical flyers BS. favoring penalty minutes over speed and skill. come playoff time fighting is useless. I dont remember one single fight occuring in any playoff games I watched last spring.
Hum.
I think it’s because fighters don’t get ice time during the playoffs, because they don’t do anything but fuck up.

I disagree that “the vast majority of our incoherent fans” is the reason this team keeps bringing in bruisers. First off, I think most of our fans are not incoherent at all. Our fans know the game. Whether it be baseball, football, hockey, or basketball, those that show up know what they’re watching and know when somebody deserves to be criticized or praised.
Second, our fans love guys who are called gritty. That doesn’t mean fighters. Hartnell, Powe, Upshall, Richards, and Knuble are quite popular with our fans, and most of them don’t fight often. What makes them favorites is that they play the game hard. Most fans like Cote and Asham, but are more than happy when they only get 5 minutes of ice time per game.
Anyway, our fans aren’t the reason we pick up a fighter. That’s our front office who is constantly stuck in the 70’s (Mainly because they used to play on those teams) trying to recreate that era.
I share your anger, and I’m sure most of the fans do too. Nearly everyone on this site agrees with you. This is on Homer, not on the fans.

Re-read what I wrote – I didn’t claim that the attitude of our fans is what brings in these gritty, bruiser type players. I was saying that most of them applaud it like fights are all that matter in hockey.
I don’t know what fans you’ve been following, but if you can point me in that direction, I’d love to join you. I’ve been a season ticket holder for 12 years now, and when I’m in that arena, I feel like I’m losing points on my IQ. We may have the most passionate fans in sports, and I love it – but passion and intelligence need to meet somewhere, and the majority of Philadelphia fails at it.

I’ve been to a lot of games in away rinks (including big hockey towns like Boston, both NY’s, Pittsburgh) and I have to say from that experience that in Philadelphia, people know their shit… especially when it comes to hockey. Most people in those other places can’t distinguish the red line from the goal line.

I’m not trying to start a pissing match here, but the fact that the Flyers have had some of the best attendance in the NHL for the past 15 years and a fan base that knows who is on the ice isn’t anything to scoff at. The Devils just tied the longest current consecutive winning seasons record at 17 (with Detroit) and they can’t sell out their arena.
I’m sorry that you feel so much smarter than the other 19,500 fans in Wachovia, but I think you shouldn’t be so quick to knock your own. They can be overly passionate to the point where you wish they’d realize what they have (McNabb haters, for one), but in general, they know that Lindros wasn’t worth what we gave up for him, that Bobby Clarke botched the post-lockout NHL, and that Mike Richards deserved the captaincy. Maybe Philadelphia’s passion and intelligence didn’t meet close enough to intelligence for you, but it did in fact meet somewhere in between.

So what're our lines now?
1st:
Gagne Richards Knuble
2nd:
Hartnell Carter Lupul
3rd:
Powe (?) Briere (?) Giroux (?)
4th:
Cote Carcillo Asham
That’s quite an angry 4th line…
OR
1st:
Gagne Richards Knuble
2nd:
Hartnell Carter Lupul
3rd:
Carcillo Briere (?) Giroux (?)
4th:
Cote Powe Asham
That 3rd line seems like it’ll be heavily focused towards the right
The latter...
I’d predict that Carcillo will skate with Briere and Giroux to add some grit to that line.

I think they might use Carcillo to protect Briere a bit. You saw the Bruins and Devils took quite a few liberties with little Danny on the ice last night. Big Danny, meet little Danny. OMG, it’s a reality show waiting to happen.
I was thinking exactly this too.
