Around SBN: Newcastle Battle Injury Woes Ahead of Tottenham

"It was a big relief this morning. There's no doubt about it. It wasn't as bad as we thought last night. I had a little workout this morning and I'm hoping to get back on the ice tomorrow, skating. I'm probably not expecting to play tomorrow night's game, but after that anything is possible. It's day-to-day after that. [The doctor] said adhesions broke and there's internal bleeding. It's obviously swollen, but he also told me that it wasn't abnormal. He's seen this before. He said most guys go through ups and downs. It's just a little downer right now and hopefully within a couple days I'll be back to playing."

- Danny Briere, speaking this morning about his recurring groin issue
UPDATE - Andreas Nodl has been called up for Saturday's game against Nashville.

I really sort of feel for this guy, despite his large salary. You know he doesn’t want to be hurt and he wants to play. I’m sure it’s all these guys know how to do anyway. Hockey is their life.

I agree...

And it’s good news that they think it’s not serious…

But they really need him to get healthy…150% healthy…prior to the playoffs. This is a nagging injury and it takes a long time to be back to full health. Rushing back for a game and then “tweaking” it, is not going to help in the long term…

World Ph*cking Champs! That was fun - let's do it again...

Ditto

With all of the negative stuff happening recently the team could ill afford to loose Brier. They have to regroup like the Pens, Habs and Rangers are doing and finish strong

this is a huge relief.

If it was up to me...

He would be out of the lineup for the next….2 weeks or so

Just to make sure. We can’t afford to lose him in the playoffs

I agree, but then I worry about him being in game shape for the playoffs. What needs to happen is that the rest of the team needs to step up their efforts and make sure the other teams can’t keep targeting him all game.

we dont have the luxury of sitting him out for two weeks. he not only needs to be healthy come playoff time, he needs to be back at full game speed. this is just gonna be one of those injuries that bothers him for the rest of the season but hell just have to play through it.

We need him to do his best Chase Utley impersonation—but then again, I don’t know that there are many guys as tough as he is.

This is a blessing in disguise.
