How to clinch: The Flyers will clinch the number four seed, and home ice in the first round, If they get more points from their game against the New York Islanders than both the Carolina Hurricanes and the Pittsburgh Penguins get from their games against New Jersey and Montreal, respectively. So basically, go Devils and Habs.

Carolina faces New Jersey at home at 1 PM. It's Martin Brodeur versus Michael Leighton. Pittsburgh is in Montreal at 7 PM tonight.

The three teams jockeying for the fourth spot in the East are playing pretty good hockey right now. Nobody knows that better than the New York Islanders, who get the honor of playing all three back-to-back-to-back to close out the season. They've lost to Carolina 9-0 and Pittsburgh 6-1 in their last two games.

The Flyers need to take advantage today. They still control their own destiny, and with wins today and tomorrow, the playoffs will start in Philadelphia.

In goal, it's Martin Biron versus Yann Denis.

Go Flyers.

Devils up 1-0 early on Carolina.

Clarkson scored 2:52 into the game.

Jinxed myself. Just as I wrote that, Carolina tied it up.

Carolina is getting some HORRIBLE bounces in this game. There’s something seriously wrong with a part of the boards behind their net.

Swing by The Flyer Frequent. You have nothing better to do.

Yeah. You’d think that with both of the Devils’ goals coming from weird bounces from the same exact area, the refs might want that area at least looked at…

I have to think this is the first time in my life I’ve rooted for the Devils. It’s the thing to do, but I still feel dirty.

I’d much rather face either of these teams than the Penguins.

If I’m the Penguins and Carolina goes pointless in this game, I’d tank tonight vs. Montreal. Better to face NJ than us I’d gotta think.

Some weird bounces for both teams early on.

1-0 Islanders

It was bound to happen. Biron is playing really well, but no one else on the Flyers is.

The Flyers are absolutely asleep out there. If not for Biron the Islanders could easily be up by three or so.

Carolina’s tied their game. The Flyers better figure it out. If Carolina beats the Devils and we lose to the Islanders, the Canes clinch the fourth seed.

NICE goal from Lupul.

This team still looks asleep. That better wake em up.

Good time for that PP to wake us up. Good to see Lups grab his 25th . . .

Lupul!

For the first time in franchise history, Flyers have six 25+ goal scorers. What a move, and what a goal. As JJ describes so often, it was truly “a laser.”

3-2 Devils

Zubrus just scored. ~4:03 left in the third.

Knuble on the power play!

That’s a dirty goal, but honestly, who cares.

Ya know, Carolina losing is only a great thing if Pittsburgh loses too.

Not a good goal. Biron gave a pretty good opening there,

They look like they are moving the puck well. Very fluid. Especially Giroux’s line. He is so fun to watch with the puck. I just get so excited to think about the things he is going to do for the Flyers in this league.

Good Period.

. . . thanks for waking up Flyers (. . . even though you playings the Isles)

According to the Flyers, the last time an NHL team had six 25-goal scorers in a single season was the 1993-94 Calgary Flames.

Adequately done!

We did what we had to do to win. I guess Biron’s getting the day off tomorrow.

I’m heading to the game tomorrow. While it might not mean anything to us, it would be nice to keep the Rangers in 8th at the very least. Plus, it would be even nicer to have a 101-point season. Go Flyers!
