Rematch time: Flyers versus Penguins in Round One

After losing to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference Finals last season, the Flyers will get a shot at redemption this year as they will face off against their cross-state rivals in the first round. Yet to be seen is if they will start the series in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh. That will be decided tomorrow afternoon. If the Flyers get at least one point against the Rangers, they clinch home ice advantage.

Tomorrow is a big game for that very reason, and the team better come out focused. As for us, we're allowed to look ahead. Can we beat Pittsburgh in a seven-game series? You're damn right we can.

LET'S GO FLYERS! Kick some Penguin ass.

How great to start this year's Stanley Cup run...

by taking down Crosby and his fellow whiny runts (I had to say runts – the word I was thinking was a little harsher, though it rhymes).

I think you’re on the wrong blog there, buddy. Unless you want to contribute something interesting why not keep your shit to yourself. Flyers get home ice and I think we’ll be seeing less of you come real soon.

im not gonna lie and say this is the matchup we wanted but regardless of opponent our playoff success comes down to three things:
1. Can Biron step it up like last spring
2. Can John Stevens get the guys to play disciplined, intense, and focused for a full 60 minutes each night.
3. avoid injuries.

When the flyers play well they can beat anyone, when they dont play well they can lose to anyone. It is up to Stevens to get this team to play their best

As a Ranger fan

I’m trained to hate both teams, but I will definitely be pulling for you guys against the Penguins. There are few athletes in sports I hate more than Cynthia Crosby.

Good luck to you guys tonight, and in the playoffs

Jim

Payback's a real b*tch

How better to pay back our Sh*tsburgh friends by eliminating them in 5 games, ya think? Yeah they’re good, but they ain’t Cup material this year. When we play our game, we are. I’m pulling for 5. Go Flyers!

Dear Payback's a real...

I love your quote, “when we play our game…”. that says it all. real rocket scientist remark there buddy. ya think the other teams can’t say the same thing no matter their seed? oh yea, you guys choked the last game against your hated rival Dangers…couldn’t even get a point – brilliant! Welcome to Pittsburgh my friend, Pens in six!

I don’t think the Rangers, on their best days, can say they are a legit Cup contender. I don’t think the Ducks can say that. I don’t think the Blue Jackets can say that. I’m not sure the Penguins can say that. When the Flyers “play their game”, they’re a better team than the Penguins. Unfortunately for us, “playing their game” on a consistent basis has been a serious problem. That’s what Kanayd was referring to.

It wasn’t a choke job—it was a team playing not to lose, not playing to win. That’s been part of the Flyers problem this year—and I think you might recognize it, because I’ve seen it in your very own Pens as well this season.

When the Flyers play to win, they usually do. I think this should be a good series as the Flyers are improved from last season and the Pens are not as good as they were. Both are at a similar level, but unfortunately, I have a feeling no matter who wins this round, the team that wins will exit next round. They have a habit of beating the crap out of one another so that there’s nothing left.

Good insight doubleh. What i find an amazing stat is the number of goals scored for and against each team…almost identical, but yet play two vastly different styles of hockey. Should be a great series – got my Iron City Light brewskies at the ready, with bandages nearby – hooah!
