We’ll see. This is where John Stevens needs to get these guys fired up.

I am just so frustrated because its not the we played badly and they got 3 pretty soft goals scored on us. Both those baseball goals were pretty lucky and I just feel like none of their goals should have happened – all avoidable :(

Color Commentators should keep their mouths shut.

Bob Salmi last night during the Sixers game, Dwight Howard at the FT line: “I can’t see him making both.” (He made both.)

Edzo today, after the fight: “That was a bad idea by Carcillo / momentum changer / etc.” Thanks a lot.

Fitting way to end the season. Inconsistent, effectively taking naps…

I don’t care who they trade as long as it isn’t Giroux, Carter, Timonen, etc… GET JBO. They NEED BETTER DEFENSE.

argh. Im at a loss for words.

Completely inexcusable to blow a 3 goal lead at home. But looking at the season as a whole, Its not a huge surprise. inconsistency was the name of the 2008 flyers. they had this tendency to just quit sometimes. and thats what they did today.

Next Year

They need to get rid of Lupul, Briere and Jones. With that space cleared sign JBO. Defensive improvement is a must.

by wash088 on Apr 25, 2009 5:50 PM EDT reply actions

Right. I agree. Get rid of them, don’t resign Alberts and fill JBO in his place.

by Ben Feldman on Apr 25, 2009 5:52 PM EDT up reply actions

We can def. afford to lose some Forwards to fill the gaping defensive holes.

by Mitchell Green on Apr 25, 2009 5:56 PM EDT up reply actions

I’d definitely agree with losing Lupul and Jones, but we’re paying Briere so much, I don’t know what our options are with him. I think the big question is what we do with a goalie. Jones really hurt us on one of the Pens’ goals, but Biron completely screwed up Crosby’s first goal when he couldn’t control the puck in/around his glove. Even with a defensive upgrade, I’ll always feel uneasy with Biron in net.

by CTFlyer on Apr 25, 2009 6:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Chokers, there's no other words

I would almost excuse this 5 unanswered(ok so 1 was an empty net)goals at pittsburgh, but to do that at home is inexcusible. Thank god I didn’t pay Comcast outrageous prices to see that junk. Theres no excuse. I think Stevens must go. Ken Hitchcock never would’ve let that happen.

The Most wonderful time of the year! Baseball Season is here! Phils and O's!

by phillybmore on Apr 25, 2009 5:53 PM EDT reply actions

Really?

Ken Hitchcock’s team just got swept by the Red Wings. The last game Ken Hitchcock coached for us in the playoffs, we lost 8-1 to Buffalo at home.

I think Stevens gets one more shot. To me, this one’s more on the players than the coach. If things aren’t going well next year, make a coaching change then.

Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?

by mikefive on Apr 25, 2009 5:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes, but that was the blue jackets vs the red wings

The stanley cup champs are that for good reason, yes they got swept, the flyers wouldn’t have done much better.. but my point is he would’ve motivated them better than stevens. Yes, his playoff record was spotty, but lets be honest, last year was all Biron, if he wasn’t on, we’d have lost to the Caps or Habs. Whatever works, I want this team to win, if a new coach isn’t it, and players need to change, so be it

The Most wonderful time of the year! Baseball Season is here! Phils and O's!

by phillybmore on Apr 25, 2009 6:04 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't know about that.

Unless you’ve played for both coaches, it’s hard to say that for sure.

Some of the players need to change. Knuble, God bless him, was starting to show his age this series. Alberts was either great or lousy. Kukkonen is of no use to us. If we keep Biron, we should replace Nitty with Craig Anderson.

Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?

by mikefive on Apr 25, 2009 6:09 PM EDT up reply actions

After watching that game, I say Biron and Stevens have to go. First, starting with Biron: It’s not that he’s bad, because last year was definitely all him. But this series, he didn’t do anything. The team was bleeding in the second, and he just joined in. All those goals were stoppable. All of them. And he didn’t get them. I’m sorry, but at some point, your goalie has to make a save. It’s not that those goals were his fault, but he HAS to stop at least two of them. Take your pick of which two, any of them could have been. But more importantly, Fleury showed how important it is to have your goalie be your best player. He stole Game 4, robbed Carter in Game 2 (allowing the comeback win) and protected the only lead he had in Game 6. Biron is good, Fleury is just better. Simply put, Biron just isn’t good enough.

Next, Stevens: After Game 1, everyone blamed him. Rightfully so. That’s on the coach. And while I’ve never been huge on Stevens, I thought he was a good guy worthy of a shot. But this team underperformed all year, he holds grudges against players (Kukkonen, Downie, etc.), shows blind faith in others (Carcillo, Jones, etc.) and just got out-coached all playoffs (Having our fourth line out against the Penguins third line in Game 4, leading to the game winning goal.) And the last straw for me was with 42 seconds left in his team’s season, Craig Berube drew up the play with Stevens peeking over his players shoulder’s to watch his Assistant Coach do his job. If Jimmy Williams sat Geoff Jenkins in Game 5 last year, this town would have no trust in Charlie Manuel. If Andy Reid let Marty Mornhigweg (sp.) call the 2-minute drill in Arizona, this town would have his head. With the season on the line, our Head Coach sat back and let Craig Berube take control. I’m sorry, but if you want Craig Berube deciding how to save your season, why are you the head coach?

Another season of failure . . .

by Mitchell Green on Apr 25, 2009 5:58 PM EDT reply actions

"Failure is always the best way to learn, retracing your steps 'til you know..."

Have no fear, our wounds will heal. Heh. Sucks for now, though.

The good news is that failure does not sit well with the Flyers organ-eye-zation. (See: 2006-07 trade deadline & offseason) The bad news is the salary cap. The good news is that we have a good number of free agents who are leaving. The bad news is that we need to replace all of them. We can’t put every dollar into a big-name defenseman and a quality goaltender.
