NHL player survey: Hartnell fifth-dirtiest player
The results are in from a recent Sports Illustrated survey, and Flyers forward Scott Hartnell has been ranked as the fifth-dirtiest player in the National Hockey League. The poll surveyed 324 NHL players and 5 percent of them ranked Hartnell as the dirtiest. Chris Pronger of the Ducks and the Stars' Steve Ott came in tied at number one with 13 percent of the vote. Ottawa's Jarkko Ruutu was ranked second with 12 percent of the vote, and Sean Avery was ranked fourth with 10 percent.
Do you agree? Personally, I think Hartnell is a pesky player and a pain in the ass to play against, but dirty on the same level as Pronger or Avery? He's a stupid player, and his propensity to yap and the terrible penalties he takes probably give him a worse reputation than he deserves.

But the Flyers are the only team that can have dirty players, guys.

Oh yea, you are right Travis. I totally forgot that we are the only team that has “goons” and dirty players haha.
I would kinda consider it an insult not to see a Flyer on that list personally . . .

There were no surprises on this list.

Occasionally Stupid? Sure. Dirty? No.
I’m not surprised at the other guys on the list, but I’m surprised to see Hartnell mentioned.
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
Hartnell
I want to say you have the trust the players – but could it be a little gamesmanship. Besides 5% is a pretty low number – that could be our division’s input to razz Hartnell. Those stats leave 47% to distribute among the rest of the players. Getting 5% puts you in the top five but at only half the number that named Avery. We can relax on this one folks

5% of 324
This means that a whopping 16 players named Hartnell the dirtiest player. Half of them are probably on the Penguins. The other 308 players named an actual dirty player.
