Robert Esche? Are we serious?

Sources tell TSN former Flyers goaltender Robert Esche is on Philadelphia's radar and may be lured back from the Kontinental Hockey League where he was playing with SKA St.Petersburg.

Philadelphia is one of a few teams believed to be interested in Esche, who spent four seasons with the Flyers before moving to Russia following the 2006-2007 season.

Is Holmgren serious?

Maybe I’m just trying to rationalize everything Homer’s doing because I don’t want to admit to myself the possibility that this team could implode at a moment’s notice for a variety of reasons, but is Chico that bad?

He’s only 31 — Niitty is 29 next week — he knows Emery and has played with him on the KHL All-Star team, and he’s much more experienced. Plus they can probably get him for a similar price to Niitty.

Probably doesn’t even matter though. He has a year left on his KHL contract anyway.

yea i dont know what he is thinking…and If I ever have to see what happened last night again in my life time…i might kill someone…this better motivate our boys in orange and black to not have those same slip ups as last year

What? Was Boucher not available?

Please.

What I did hear is that Nitty has a hip injury that they believe might plague him the rest of his career. I think they fear signing him long term because of this.

I'll say it again...

Craig Anderson.

We can have him for the same price as Niitty. And he’s not injured! Why can we not do this?

Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?

If all other options fail, sure why not? If we can’t swing a deal for Price, can’t afford Anderson, and are afraid of Nitty’s hip, then I’ll be OK with it.

Now that I’m done barfing since Friday night I just want to say I don’t give a F who they sign, they just better start winning and do something- ANYTHING- to win a Cup! I’m sick of watching our team with more talent lose while pansies from across the state skate around with the Cup. If THAT ain’t motivation then NOTHING will motivate our team. Sign Emery, sign Esche, hell sign Pee Wee Herman, just WIN A CUP ALREADY!!!

honestly, now that the glory is over from that debacle of a Friday evening (and to think, every time we play pittsburgh next year, we get to hear “and the Flyers will go up against the DEFENDING Stanley Cup Champions” ugh, makes me sick to my stomache.

anyways. I honestly think that Esche is a great consideration, and seriously hope he signs back with us for this upcoming season. Niitty’s hips, and inconsistency have me feeling a bit down about him being the back up for next year. I’d much rather have Emery/Esche (give backlund the full season in the A, and see what he is capable of).

Esche has had some glorious moments in Philadelphia, and it provides the Flyers with TWO starting goaltenders.

I couldn’t think of anything better for cheap contracts to help us out against the cap. It’s two pure goaltenders, and although they have both played overseas for the last year (or few years rather) they were both still NHL goaltenders, and I feel it gives us an edge in net, for more reasons then one

Esche isn’t a bad goalie; he never was. He was always someone who was serviceable and with the Flyers serviceable is all they are ever looking for. To win the Flyers need a superstar goalie, but with the signing of Emery they have shown that they will take a chunk of money out of the goalie area to improve the team in other areas.

Remember the Flyers are taking cap lessons from the Eagles. They Eagles believe in the system more than anything else. What the Flyers are doing is saying: “Lets spend more on the defense to limit shots as much as possible and play good defense and keep the great shots to a minimum.” Most goalies in the league can stop most shots and that is what the Flyers are hoping to get out of Emery/Esche, a goalie that can play as well as the defense in front of them. In compassion it is as the Eagles are with Mcnabb and the WR core. You have to have a certain level of talent to catch a ball and that is all they are asking for with a QB like McNabb.
