Greetings from Colorado.

Normally I'd keep this stuff to HFboards, but we've got a lively discussion going on over at Mile High Hockey concerning a trade for Briere and JvR, and we'd welcome your view on it.

Somehow I doubt this is a trade that goes down too well for either fan base -- us because we're giving up a lot of homegrown guys and taking on that nasty Briere contract, you guys because JvR is involved -- but I think it's still an interesting discussion. We'd welcome your input.

No way. As much as I would love- LOVE- to ditch Briere’s salary, we got Pronger and that plugs a HUGE hole our team had. We needed a body moving D man and now we got one. Trading JVR along with all the draft picks and Sbisa to get Pronger is trading away the future. Our team wasn’t that bad before Pronger joined and now we’re a serious threat in the east before the season even starts. At this point if we had to lose another prospect or draft pick to get rid of Briere’s salary then I would rather eat the cost and keep him. A line needs to be drawn before we give away the farm again (need I bring up Lindros?) for something that’s not a given. One player doesn’t guarantee a Cup, but we’re a hell of a lot scarier than we were, and with Lupul gone and Giroux here from the start of the season I see good things happening. Assuming Briere stays healthy he should put up some good numbers this year because I feel with all the talk about getting rid of him he might feel like he has something to prove. Most likely by the next trade deadline, as teams are looking for an offensive boost as the playoffs near, someone is going to bite if we keep dangling him. And it’s not like the guy is all that bad either, he just had a bad year with injuries, and he really isn’t to blame since the doctors cleared him before he was ready. But getting rid of JVR? No way, unless there is one hell of a prospect coming our way.

Er...

Just who would the Avalanche trade??? I really don’t see anyone on their roster I’d want in trade for such established talent as Briere and such potential as JVR. Just what is being proposed?

Don’t be afraid to click on the links, my friend. He proposed:

To Philly: Wojtek Wolski, John-Michael Liles (7.0m total cap hit)

To Colorado: Danny Briere, Randy Jones, James van Riemsdyk
