Mike Richards can win Selke Trophy in Las Vegas tonight
His competition is fierce, but if you ask around the hockey world today, people think Flyers captain Mike Richards has a good shot at taking some hardware home from Las Vegas tonight. He's one of three nominees for the Frank J. Selke Trophy, awarded to the league's best defensive forward.
Also nominated are Ryan Kesler of the Vancouver Canucks and last year's winner, Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings. Most people seem to think it's a two man race between Datsyuk and Richards. Richards might not give a better speech than Datsuyk, but if you ask me, he's more deserving.
And I'm not biased or anything.
In addition to Richie's hopeful victory tonight, Flyers goaltending coach Reggie Lemelin is presenting an award. If you're hanging around use this as a live thread for the awards show, which starts at 7:30 PM ET on Versus.
UPDATE - Datsyuk wins the Selke.

i knew it,
although both are just as good and deserving, dats is a veteran who has been known throughout his career at a great defensive forward. give richie a few years and he will have some of those trophies (and a few rings too).

Although Richards lost ---
It was incredibly close in the voting, and Richards received more First place votes than Dats. A great season for Mike, and he really deserved the award this year. In almost winning it, hopefully it will set the table for him to take it in the future.

Grade Post?
I haven’t seen a “Grading Mike Richards” post yet….
who cares about individual trophies…the only one that really matters is the Stanley Cup and Richards does not have one of those yet.
