Sources tell TSN the Toronto Maple Leafs have received what the team considers to be a significant offer for defenseman Tomas Kaberle.
There are few details available, however the offer arrived unexpectedly Thursday afternoon and is believed to be from one of the teams who may have been in the hunt, trying to acquire the negotiating rights to Florida's Jay Bouwmeester. The unidentified team offered a player and a draft pick for Kaberle.

Hrmm...
I hope it’s not Lupul. That would be devestating. (And for crying out loud haters, you’re friggen flyers fans, learn how to spell the name of a guy on your #2 line) And the Flyers don’t have a 2nd round pick this year or next, so it’d be a first. A first and lups for a d-man? Sounds alot like the Carcillo trade.

How so? A player you like for a player you don’t? This would fill a need on defense that the front office is definitely trying to fill. Not saying it’s necessarily the best move, but it makes sense.
It’s my belief that the need for defense was the front office politely saying Biron and Nitty are weak this year, and Stevens doesn’t seem to do a good job rounding up the younger D-men.

If we learned one lesson from last year, it’s that consistent lines and player chemistry mean alot. Lupul is worth what he’s paid. He’s Hartnell with more discipline, better passing, and a bigger upside. And guess what? He gets paid about the same as Hartnell. Remember that tight game that went down to the wire that Hartnell won for us? I don’t. But I can think of 3 or 4 off the top of my head that Lups won.
But if he’s replaceable, please, tell me, who would you replace him with?

the canes game, where we were down 4, and hartnell's hat trick won it for us,
and i can think of more games where hertnell won for us the Lupul did. i also wanna know if you watch the games, because i sure do, and i cant stand Lupul’s laziness and LACK OF HEART ti come through in the clutch. and like i said before, danny and Giroux can replace him on that line and do better too.
Hartnell also had more goals and more assist then Lupul, so i wanna know what make you think that he is above and beyond Hartnell, when its clear he isnt.
agreed
I’d make this trade in a second. The Flyers need a good puck moving defenseman. Kaberle happens to one. And yes, Lupul IS VERY replaceable. Out of our top quality forwards, he’d be the one I would move.

Yeah… See thats not really a replacement so much as shifting lines around.

I’m so glad that we define clear distinctions between players simply on points. I mean, I’d hate to look at speed, athleticism, stamina, and discipline. Or, heaven forbid, Penalty Minutes. Lups had about 50 minutes in the sin bin. Hartnell nearly tripled that.
I’ll concede that Lups goes through slumps. Hell, I think Stevens put him on the 4th line for a week or two because he was playing like a minor leaguer.
It doesn’t change the fact that he’s a great player now, belongs on the 2nd line, has saved us in the playoffs in the past, will save us again, and that teams are chomping at the bit to acquire him. If he sucks that bad, why are so many teams anxious to grab him? It’s not as if scouts don’t have basic cable and can’t watch the Flyers games.
Am I saying Lups is clearly better then Harty? No. In fact, I like Harty more. He makes me laugh. Is he clearly worse then Harty? No. He belongs on that line. Does he have a better chance of improving his game? I think so. If you disagree, that’s you’re entitled opinion, of course, but there isn’t a player entering market that I could see us replacing lupul with, with the money we make on giving him away.

I think "replacable" is the wrong term...
He’s more “expendable”, in terms that can adequately fill his role, while finding a possible cost savings. This is, unfortunately, the business of things – just ask Scottie Upshall. I also think using the modifier “very” is a bit over-the-top. For what he brings to the team, there aren’t a lot of available players for a moderate price to just drop into the lineup.
As for the shifting of the lines, it’s important to remember that the object is to replace production (and chemistry and yadda yadda yadda). By being able to successfully move Giroux into the lineup to replace Lupul’s production (we’ll have to make an assumption – one that I feel is not too far of a stretch – that Giroux would be able to put up 20-25 goals in a full season), you can know go out and find a replacement for what Giroux brought last season. Or, moreso in this case, the revolving winger position on the team.
…Ok, so all I’ve got right now for that is Michel Ouellet or Taylor Pyatt (wow, I’m on a roll with this “let’s steal from Vancouver” kick). I’m sure others can find more suitable replacements, but that’s how it goes when you’re at work and want to get to lunch.
I’m in the camp of shopping Lupul around a little bit to see what we can get. I’m not on board with JBo, so I’m not for shipping Lupul for the rights to talk to JBo either. But, should the right deal roll around where we can save some cap room without destroying the team structure, I’ll be willing to listen. But if nothing happens, I’m fine with what we’ve got right now.
