The Flyers and Emery have come to terms on a deal that reportedly will pay him $1.5 million for 1 year. The deal can't be signed until July 1, when free agency starts. But the team is expected to announce the deal sooner.

This sounds more and more like the right decision to me. That doesn’t mean it’s going to work out, but let’s be honest — we weren’t going to win a cup with Biron, so why not take a risk? The potential for high talent is there, without a doubt, and in that area, he’s less risky than, say, making Clemmensen or Anderson our starters.
Let’s hope Homer, Stevens and Richards can keep him under control. Just in case he explodes, I really think we need to resign Niittymaki. As so many others have said, Backlund can replace Niitty eventually, but he needs a year or so to re-adjust to North American rinks.
Plus, of course, Emery is cheap. He’ll be fired up (but hopefully he’ll use that determination in the right way), and now we’re on our way to clearing up space for a JBO or Komisarek.
