47 points by Knuble last year.
Lapierre hasn’t had 47 points a season in his entire NHL career.

AND WE PAID MORE FOR HIM.

Fucking madness.

by BroadStreetBully on Jul 1, 2009 4:52 PM EDT reply actions

dude it’s 1.2 cap hit try reading.

by SJPhillyVT on Jul 1, 2009 4:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Over 3 years. Knuble wanted 2. 2.5 < 3.5. You fail at math.

by BroadStreetBully on Jul 1, 2009 4:57 PM EDT up reply actions

What? Laperierre’s cao hit is 1.2. Knuble’s is 2.8. the cap hit average is all that matters.

by SJPhillyVT on Jul 1, 2009 5:00 PM EDT up reply actions

thats true, knuble wanted too much, and he is the new metro

by JpH89 on Jul 1, 2009 5:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Im sick of the knuble faithful

he is a little slow

not tough on the boards

doesnt fight

and for a first liner- doesnt score enough

anyone can camp out in front of the net and pop PP goals, he will not be missed come next year

by fitzy first on Jul 1, 2009 8:01 PM EDT up reply actions

bullshit. but guess what statistic Lapierre does beat Knuble by a lot in…you guessed it…PIM

by njh3293 on Jul 1, 2009 4:53 PM EDT reply actions

As if the Flyers weren’t already targets of the league, this does not help their case. Emery, Pronger, Hartnell, Carcillo, Lapierre…the all penalty-team.

by doubleh on Jul 1, 2009 4:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Guess they took that whole “you do better on the PK” with shorties seriously.

by BroadStreetBully on Jul 1, 2009 4:57 PM EDT up reply actions

"His 163 penalty minutes are inflated, however, due to 17 majors, 3 misconducts, and 1 game misconduct. He drew 19 minor penalties, one less than Arron Asham and the same as Mike Richards. "

From the Lap post. People need ot stop jumping to conclusions.

by SJPhillyVT on Jul 1, 2009 8:23 PM EDT up reply actions

And one of the misconducts and the game misconduct were iffy

Both penalties were called when Laperriere was skating back and kicked a broken stick out of his way. The stick deflected into the puck, and a penalty shot, the misconduct, and the game misconduct were all called for that play. It was less deliberate than Hartnell’s thrown glove fiasco, but Laperriere got a ridiculous penalty call.

As an Avs fan

You guys are going to love Lappy.

Congrats

blah. we heard the same thing about Carcillo. I’m sick and tired of these “energy” players who “dont have raw talent but play their asses off”. sure one or two of them is a good thing, but we dont need two whole lines of that garbage. our number one weakness this past season was taking too many penalties so what do we do? add 100 more penalty minutes to our team.

by njh3293 on Jul 1, 2009 5:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Our number one weakness last year was lazyness and no one looking like they wanted to show up.

by SJPhillyVT on Jul 1, 2009 5:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Ummm Yeah

85 of those minutes were from his 17 fighting majors but, unlike Carcillo, he’s good on the PK (he got a Selke vote, FYI) and I’ve never seen him take a bad fight.

Trust me, you guys are going to love him.

yeah, seriously. Avs fans would kill to have Lappy at this contract.

by thedoctor on Jul 1, 2009 5:06 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm excited for him

I think we’re all a bit apprehensive because our bottom two lines are now filled with very similar players. But he brings a great presence wherever he goes, and he’s coming at a good price. Definitely a good player to have around. For us, it’s just a matter of dealing with the other one’s that we already have…

And who knows – maybe if they pair him with Carcillo, Lappy can do the mucking and grinding while Carcillo focuses on his scoring touch. Or something. (Hey, it could happen!)

Trade you....

We will trade ya the mighty Darcy Tucker for your worthless “energy player” Ian Laperriere???

by i2strange97 on Jul 1, 2009 5:26 PM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

just filling out the roster. Step away from the kitchen knives kids. The organization is simpy dealing with the hand they were dealt. Lets stop crying to trade briere, its not going to happen. A no trade clause and a high salary ensures that. We keep gagne, hartnell and all of our key guys and lose knuble.

by CoburnsCuddleBuddy on Jul 1, 2009 5:04 PM EDT reply actions

This move generates goals

He’s a very good penalty killer. Hopefully the next chip is a PK/Faceoff guy. This then frees up Richards/Gags/Carter from spending so much time on the PK.

Again, a very good move because it addresses a major problem from last season.

by MarioD on Jul 1, 2009 5:10 PM EDT reply actions

There had to be someone else out there……maybe Madden….We need to lose Carcillo now somehow….

by Orangeblood74 on Jul 1, 2009 5:16 PM EDT reply actions

as of now:
gagne-richards-briere
hartnell-carter-giroux
asham-powe-laperriere
cote-ross-carcillo
these thrid and fourth lines are ugly

by Orangeblood74 on Jul 1, 2009 5:18 PM EDT reply actions

Still time for more.

by SJPhillyVT on Jul 1, 2009 5:21 PM EDT up reply actions

I’d rather them move more defensively minded to be fair. Our 3 lines of power never worked.

by SJPhillyVT on Jul 1, 2009 5:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Ross is not under contract.

This is more likely the bottom two lines:

Nodl – FA to be signed – Laperriere
Carcillo – Powe/Kalinski – Asham

It’s also possible they sign someone like Recchi or Robert Lang, put them on a wing on one of the top lines and trickle down the talent like this:

Gags – Richards – Hartnell
Nodl – Carter – Recchi*
Briere – Giroux – Laperierre
Carcillo – Powe – Asham

Nodl and Carter clicked last fall until Nodl injured his groin. Briere and Giroux play together really well, as do Gags and Richards.

So its a choice: Do you want to be stronger of face-offs or deep on the 3rd line?

by MarioD on Jul 1, 2009 5:32 PM EDT up reply actions

nahhhh, i think were done for now, at least until the season starts

by JpH89 on Jul 1, 2009 5:37 PM EDT up reply actions

we still haven’t gotten better at faceoffs…..what about sami pahlsson, he is good on the pk and he can win somr faceoffs. he’d be cheap too…

by Orangeblood74 on Jul 1, 2009 5:42 PM EDT up reply actions

ouch, pahlsson signed for $2.65 a year (cap hit), guess i was way off

Fan Favorite in Colorado

I suppose Ian LaPerriere is the defensive forward I have been lobbying for … but I would have much rather seen someone that did NOT have 100+ PIMS. I understand, they were fighting majors – but I do think the Flyers are well enough stocked with pugilists! Carcillo, Cote, Asham, Hartnell, Pronger , Emery, heck even Boucher! Good grief! Let’s compare, how many pure fighters are there on the Stanley Cup winning Penguins? ONE, Eric Godard with 21 fighting majors last season. Carcillo and Cote had 22 majors APIECE, and Asham had another 17! Now we add 17 more in Lappy? Yikes.

by penguinsfan on Jul 1, 2009 5:22 PM EDT reply actions

Bobby Clarke must be throwing some input

Trying to bring back the old school fighting style of the Flyers…. just lacking the defense for it

by Ant on Jul 1, 2009 5:25 PM EDT up reply actions

i dont understand????

all of you wanted a defensive forward for our 3rd line, we get that and most of you are up in arm on how bad it is. i like the move, but thats cause i like Lappy as a player, and i am a flyers fan. and cote will NOT be on the team next year, we have too many good players for him to be on the roster, so thats 22 fights that wont be back, and asham and lappy are good at what fights they take. i like the move a lot, imo.

Notes

- Assistant Captain in Colorado (Sakic was captain)

- Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: “Like a lot of things this summer involving the Avalanche, it doesn’t make much sense. Ian Laperriere, heart-and-soul forward, fan favorite and locker-room leader, will no longer be on the team after July 1.”

- HF Boards: “Easily worth 2 years at 1.85 per. Great on the PK, leadership, protects teammates, has some hands. Will be a great signing for whichever lucky club gets him.”

- “Ian Laperrierre’s enthusiasm for the game is infectious…” -Terry Frei Denver Post.

If he’s someone that can help kickstart the Carters and Gagnes of the team, then that’s all the better. We’ve already gotten rid of two floaters in Lupul and Knuble. We add players that actually come to play and people complain. I just don’t get it sometimes. It’s not about the best players, it’s about the right ones. It’s a hockey team, not an all star team.

by SJPhillyVT on Jul 1, 2009 5:39 PM EDT reply actions

Thanks for posting this. I have no problem with signing Laperriere. He’s cheap, he’s a real energy guy, and we’re going to need all the help we can on the PK.

by Ben Feldman on Jul 1, 2009 5:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Yea, don’t mind Lappy (minus the fact that he isn’t a faceoff wiz but whatever). He will bring a lot of good stuff and he is gritty which is good. Hopefully he can grind and cycle the puck effectively. Isn’t quite a Knuble (still super sad to see him go), but he will be able to do things that weren’t really in Mike’s skill set.

Still not happy about the Boucher signing. I really hope he proves me wrong. I know he is cheap but I see our goalie situation imploding badly on us and then this great offense and stellar defense will be nothing. Lets hope Emery rebounds impressively . . .

by Mitchell Green on Jul 1, 2009 5:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Emery can get it done. He’s realized his mistakes and paid his dues in Russia. He knows what it takes for the NHL now. He’s seen the bottom.

by SJPhillyVT on Jul 1, 2009 5:51 PM EDT up reply actions

PK

anyone who can pull minutes on the PK from Richards and Carter is a good thing still see him as a 3rd line winger not the center. Still looking for a center to help win faceoffs. This is looking more and more like Claude is going to get his shot on the top line.

On Emery at worst he is just as good as Marty and with Pronger in front that means a sub 2.50 GAA.

by chrislanci on Jul 1, 2009 5:53 PM EDT reply actions

Yea….and the market right now for Biron is VERY telling IMO

by AshburnAlley on Jul 1, 2009 5:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Nah, that’s the market for goaltending. Has any goaltender not on an entry level contract actually gotten a raise yet?

Khabi went down, Dwayne Roloson’s salary went down… every is following the Detroit model and not paying for goaltenders.

by MarioD on Jul 1, 2009 8:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Huet and Theodore got ridiculously overpaid last year. Guess everyone learned their lessons with those two.

by SJPhillyVT on Jul 1, 2009 8:22 PM EDT up reply actions

True. I feel bad for Biron. Who was telling him he was gonna get 5 a year? And why didn’t anyone on the team try to talk sense to him?

by AshburnAlley on Jul 1, 2009 8:48 PM EDT up reply actions

I think I heard that his agent dropped the ball on this so he changed his representation right before FA…that’s what was reported on CSN anyway.

by doubleh on Jul 1, 2009 8:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Dropped the ball how…overvaluing him by 3-4 mill a year?

by AshburnAlley on Jul 1, 2009 9:02 PM EDT up reply actions

What CSN reported was that his agent wasn’t aggressive enough in trying to negotiate with the Flyers before free agency or something to that effect and so he changed representation because he wasn’t happy with the effort.

by doubleh on Jul 1, 2009 10:16 PM EDT up reply actions

what r we getting for boucher? under 8 mil a year?

by fitzy first on Jul 1, 2009 9:08 PM EDT reply actions

I think 800-900K…I believe it’s 2 yrs/1.8 mill total, so 900K.

by AshburnAlley on Jul 1, 2009 9:10 PM EDT up reply actions

i think thats a pretty good deal for a vet and 5 OT hero of ’00

Yup...

I agree. lol, freakin Ron Tugnutt
