John LeClair to Be Inducted into US Hockey Hall of Fame

John LeClair is set to be inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.  The other members of the 2009 inductee class include fellow former Flyer Tony Amonte, Tom Barasso, and the entire 1998 US Women's Olympic Team.

LeClair, who was once considered one of the top handful of Americans in the NHL, was the first American (or non-Canadian) in league history to score fifty goals in three consecutive seasons.

On another note, this is about all the assurance anyone needs that LeClair has hung up the skates for good, which there had been some uncertainty about since he never formally announced his retirement.

Congrats, Johnny.  Hard to think of a player from your era who deserves it more.

He deserved a Cup

Too bad none was forthcoming.

Congratulations John! I’m glad I got your jersey instead of Lindros’!

Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?

Duh... (on my part)

What I meant to say was that he deserved a Cup HERE, for all of his efforts. I should have made that clear. Mea culpa.

The Whole 98 Womens Hockey team? Now I realize the Canadians were heavily favored that year, but the US and Canadian teams were the only talented ones in the pool. Not only that, but the US team went Undefeated the whole tournament so its not like they lost a game to the Canadians and then came back to defeat them.

Wouldn’t going undefeated qualify them anyway?

The Pool in 98 was horrible, and the only reason it was a big deal at the time was because of how horrible the Mens team did after all the hype. And they wrecked their hotel room to top it off.

It was also the first time women’s hockey had ever been in the Olympics, for what that’s worth. Women’s hockey players don’t have too many chances to shine, so going undefeated in the Olympics is about as good as they could possibly do.
