Assuming Jones is moved in a salary dump, 3 million for 6th defenseman is a bit much. Who would you like to see the Flyers add and why?
Todd Bertuzzi - a former 40 goal scoring all star, at 34 years of age he is clearly long past those days scoring only 15 goals last year for the Flames. He could come cheap adds even more toughness to an already intimidating lineup. His biggest asset is his size 6ft 3in 230lb power fowards are few and far between. Bert could serve as a decent replacement of Knuble on the PP and add some 3rd line scoring punch.
Miroslav Satan - a player I always remember playing well against our Flyers, a 9 time 20 goal scoring with a good shot. He didn't fit in with Crosby and Malkin on the Pens and was sent down to the AHL for a few games last season. He scored 17 goals in 65 games but in my opinion plays soft even by European standards and stays out of the high traffic areas. Assuming he can still bury his chances pairing him with Claude on the 3rd line gives the "Boy Wonder" a scoring compliment to hit with his beautiful passes.
Petr Sykora - another option for a 3rd line scoring, Sykora scored 25 goals last year in 71 games. His production dropped out in the playoffs playing in only 7 games due to injury. He has avoided injury for most of his career and has tons of playoff and stanley cup experience, winning cups with both the Devils and Pens. Petr can also serve as a capable top 6 forward if someone gets injured due to his solid two way play.
Michael Peca - oft injured and old at 35 years old is also a good ways past the prime of his career. A former Selke winning center who is solid on draws would be solid checking line center and penalty killer on the 3rd and 4th line. He could also come cheap with a incentive laden contract and hopefully he would want to sign with a cup contender in 09.
Manny Malhotra - a younger version of Peca at 29 he can do every Peca can do with more speed, size and better scoring touch. Manny might be entering the prime of his career but so far he has never lived up to his lofty draft status as a former no. 7 overall draft pack back in 1998 by the Rangers. Not sure what is looking for in a contract but as the summer moves on his price should go down.
