Ranking the Flyers: Number 4
In a somewhat surprising vote, Jeff Carter was voted the third most valuable Flyer with 44% of the vote. Chris Pronger came in second with 25%, and Simon Gagne was third with 15%.
Two things I thought I'd mention: 1) This round received around 250 less votes than the previous round. Whether that contributed to the outcome or was in part due to the results, one cannot be sure. Hopefully, a major contributing factor was that this round took place over the weekend.
Secondly, some comments seem to suggest that people are voting who they think is #3, regardless of whether their choice for #2 was still available or not. This was neither intended nor foreseen. Rather, the numbers are there to represent which round the player won. So this round, rather than rank who you personally think is the 4th most valuable Flyer, rank who you think is the most valuable Flyer listed. Hopefully this was not a widespread phenomenon.
So, a quick catchup:
1. Mike Richards
2. Kimmo Timonen
3. Jeff Carter

Pronger
Yes, Pronger Is next in line, but, I think the goalie position should be in this spot. Unfortunately, we are dealing with an unknown quality here. Therefore the “D” will have to be looked at as more valuable. What will be interesting, will be the 5 spot. After these guys are gone who is next? Gags? Giroux? Coburn?
What's surprising about Carter at #3?
I voted him #1, and subsequently #2 and #3 due to his not winning the formers.
I’m just glad that the results of this poll aren’t going to be truly reflective of what is going to happen this season.
If Timo and Carter are truly our #2/3 MVP’s, this team is in serious trouble.
Pronger was brought here because of our lack of a true MVP defenseman.
No disrespect meant to Timo, but he’s a really nice smooth skating, offensive, QB PP, but he’s not a shot blocking, clear the crease, intimidate the opposition, control the ice, type of guy.
However, the results of the poll are interesting, if this is the perception.

Only one thing
I agree with everything, except that Kimmo does in fact block shots. He was tied for 12th in the league among defenseman last year in blocked shots with 164. Pronger had 122.

Emery
I voted Emery in this spot.If the Flyers want to get past the Penguins,Bruins and Rangers of the Eastern Conference, they need good goaltending. So Emery is very valuable.

Playoff teams tend to rise and fall on goalies. So It’s odd that position has been ignored so far.
I guarantee these polls will not reflect in any way how the season will turn out. We’ll look back and laugh. Hell… I’m laughing now. ;)
I guess its a distinction between important and valuable.
