Who didn't want to play with the Blackhawks back in the day
JR, Smith, what a team!!
Its a shame his days in Philly are known for the rocket he took to the chin.
Yea, but he showed the kind of player and guy that he was through it all. I remember I went to a game that season and they spotlighted JR up in one of the boxes. He got a huge standing ovation. He was one of those players that you knew he loved to play hockey and he was having a great time. I loved that he cared enough to speak his mind. He was certainly a fierce competitor but I loved how he would play pranks and be a jokester. He was just one of those class acts that any coach would die to have one his team. He certainly did deserve a cup :(
For a while now we knew that post hockey JR was gonna look to get into TV. I am hoping that CSN snatches him up to do Flyers coverage before ESPN can corrupt him and torture him by putting him next to Barry “Mullethead” Melrose. Although, it would be nice to have a anti-Crosbitch sympathizer on national television!
Just thought I would add a highlight clip for reminiscing purposes! Thanks JR!
I remember his first regular season goal
I was at the season opener in 2001-02 when he scored a goal against the Panthers. We won the game like 5-1, and his was the 4th or 5th goal, but he was still really excited. He scored from the left circle on the power play. For some reason that image is burned into my mind.
Also the Toronto goal in 2004, of course. That’s the game when the CBC broadcaster said, “These Flyers are coming hard!” right before that goal. I prefer Gary Dornhoefer’s non-innuendo-laden phrase, “The crowd is quiet.”
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
I guess I should have couched that with
For those outside Philly thats what he will be remembered for. I have a nothing but fond memories of his time in Philly. Rooted for him wherever he went afterwards. Class act, great player, great guy from all accounts.
Every sport needs someone JR. He would have made D-Jax crazy glue a ball to his hands after that Cowboys fiasco.
Doubt it, he’d get paid more for Broadcasting, and since he’s the type of guy who says whats on his mind I doubt he’d last long.
And
If he works for NBC it would not be much travel as well.
I think JR would do well in politics if he wanted to. Downright honesty is a good attribute in my book.
Give him Milbury’s job, please.
