"It's not something I would even consider."
GM Paul Holmgren, on whether or not he would demote Riley Cote to the Phantoms.

Then again, I think Riley’s earned an NHL job somewhere. Sending him to the AHL is a pretty big sign of disrespect. Unless he clears waivers, which I doubt he’d do.

That’s fine by me. If some other team wants him to lose fights for them, then by all means, they can have him.
It just makes me mad to think that he is taking up a spot on the roster when a guy like Mika Pyorala (aka a skilled player) who is able to actually contribute to this team can’t get on the roster. That is such a joke!

He’s pretty well loved by the organization as well. They named it the Cote Carnival. Seriously, lol. I love the guy as a person as well, but his play style sucks ass.

I thought that was Riley’s personal charity event, but I could be wrong.
He’s always on Preston and Steve, so he’s good in my book.

He’s a great guy… great in the community, etc. I was even a fan of him back when he played for Dayton in the ECHL. Great attitude, a ton of energy, etc.
But — that doesn’t mean he’s good enough for a roster spot on a team with as much depth as the Flyers. He’s simply not good enough to crack this top 12. Period. It’s a shame, but it’s a tough business.

Hrm. Maybe he learned how to fight over the offseason. Hah.
Let's go Flyers!

His wife is hot. Consolation?
Seriously, the guy has no use with Asham, Carcillo, and Laperriere on the team. He might be a good guy to have in some aspects but you have to draw a line somewhere.

Not to knock anybody’s wife, but did you see the Coatesy’s Corner mash up during the last pre-season game? I had to rewind and show my gf the contrast between Mr. Cote’s wife and another player’s wife. Definitely didn’t expect Riley to land her.
