Behind Enemy Lines: In Lou We Trust
In the second to last preseason tune-up of the year, the Flyers travel to North Jersey to take on the Devils in the back end of a home-and-home. Brian Boucher is expected to play the entire game in goal while Martin Brodeur will play the entire game at the other end. The Flyers have not released a lineup for tonight's game, but the Devils will be lining up a roster closer to what we'll see from them all year. Zach Parise, Jamie Langenbrunner, Travis Zajac, Brendan Shanahan and Jay Pandolfo will all take the ice tonight for New Jersey. Tough guy Andrew Peters will also be in the lineup, so it'll be interesting to see if the Flyers counter that move.
The biggest question surrounding the Flyers tonight is the status of defenseman Randy Jones. Several sources reported yesterday that the Flyers would be waiving Jones by the end of the weekend, but as of now it hasn't happened. Will Jones be in the lineup tonight? UPDATE: Jones has been put on waivers, according to CSNPhilly.com. Are his expected replacements, Danny Syvret and Ole-Kristian Tollefsen, in tonight's game? Hopefully we'll get a long glimpse at them tonight.
We shall see. 7 PM puck drop from Newark. No TV coverage in Philly or NJ, but you can listen to the game at 610wip.com.

Jones was officially waived about an hour ago, according to both Tim Panaccio and Anthony SanFilippo (I’m guessing this was a scheduled and when you wrote this it hadn’t happened yet?).
Yup, I wrote this a few hours ago. Updated now.

Nah, I’m away from home so I can’t get that done right now.

According to CapGeek, assuming Syvret is the 6/7 D-man, both JVR and Pyorala make the team, and Blair Betts’ cap hit is $650,000, the organization will have $1,811,252 in cap space to start the season. Here’s where things get tricky: JVR has $850,000 worth of potential bonuses in his contract and Parent has $33,333 worth of potential bonuses in his. The ~$1.811m in free space does not include those bonuses, as they won’t have been achieved yet (unless one of JVR or Parent’s incentives is to play/start the season in the NHL).
If somehow both JVR and Parent can reach all of their incentives throughout the season (highly unlikely), the free cap space will dwindle down to $927,919. That’s not terrible, but it’s also not great. At the same time, if you keep Jones, Betts and Pyorala and lose JVR and Syvret, the available cap space is $440,418 before any of Parent’s $33,333 in potential benefits.
Very good. It’s also worth noting what MarioD wrote in his fanpost though: The team can go over the salary cap by 7.5% for bonuses throughout the year. However, if at the end of the year all of those bonuses are paid out, then they count against the cap. So, the team can operate for the entire year with $1.8 million in cap space (JVR at $875,000), until those bonuses are achieved. If, at the end of the year, those bonuses are all paid and the team is over the cap, the amount they went over by is simply counted against next year’s cap. At least that’s the general consensus at this point, Panaccio not included.

Carter
I saw Jeff Carter today on 2nd Street outside of AKA Music.
I guess he’s not playing tonight in Jersey.
Backlund apparently had a great game the other night with the Phantoms. Hopefully it’s nothing serious with Boosh but whatever it is, maybe it explains why he’s not been very good in his limited time this pre-season.
Hey hey, guess who’s on the ice for a goal against!
JVR and the defense pairing of Parent and Tollefsen.
lol you hate JVR, you never have a positive thing to say about him. look he is a rookie and can certinly get better at D, its not like hes the next Briere.
So, a little late to the party, but this isn’t on tv?
