Hey friends, I’m crashing the party a bit today.

Two things I’ve noticed so far:

1) After three seasons of watching the pre-game hype, it’s very parade like. By that I mean, they keep kicking it back and forth to various people without going anywhere.

2) Why is this the Battle of Boston? I mean, coming as a fan of Pittsburgh who understands why something would be “The Battle of Pennsylvania.” how do Battle of Boston make any sense when the game is between Boston and…Philly?

This Winter Classic so far (end of first period) is a great concept but it’s a terrible game. The ice surface makes it the speed of an AHL game and the puck is bouncing everywhere so everything has to be so deliberate.

Also, NBC, I get it, it reminds the players of "the pond" out back when they were a kid.

There’s been a couple of chances where they were too unselfish — Gagne in the 2-on-1 there, Richards (I think it was him) earlier on the PP. Especially with the way the puck is bouncing, just get it on net and good things can happen.

That was definitely a penalty though.

He tripped over the bruins stick though, thats a penalty on Boston

by JpH89 on Jan 1, 2010 4:09 PM EST reply actions

I’ll bet my life savings the Bruins score on the 4-3 in O.T if they don’t score in regulation.

by EREX21 on Jan 1, 2010 4:09 PM EST reply actions

poor Betts there

by JpH89 on Jan 1, 2010 4:09 PM EST reply actions

nice stall there…to OT then

by chillicothe20 on Jan 1, 2010 4:09 PM EST reply actions

Nothing like the NHL refs ruining a good defensive game with crap calls in the last 5 minutes.

by DrMSM on Jan 1, 2010 4:10 PM EST reply actions

the Briere call was legit. Stupid penalty to take if you ask me.

by EREX21 on Jan 1, 2010 4:10 PM EST up reply actions

typical, we lose to poor execution by top line and bad D by Braydon coburn

by JpH89 on Jan 1, 2010 4:15 PM EST reply actions

But a poins a point and we need that its still a game non the less

by JpH89 on Jan 1, 2010 4:15 PM EST up reply actions

SHIT

Definitely lost a point in this one

by chillicothe20 on Jan 1, 2010 4:15 PM EST reply actions

Flyers deserved to lose with that garbage 3rd period. You get that many chances and don’t convert then you don’t deserve to win.

by EREX21 on Jan 1, 2010 4:15 PM EST reply actions

How in Christ’s name do we not score there?

by PhillyFriar on Jan 1, 2010 4:15 PM EST reply actions

First its overtime, not extra innings, and secondly where was the too many men on the ice call?

by EREX21 on Jan 1, 2010 4:16 PM EST reply actions

“extra innings” another baseball reference

by JLS89 on Jan 1, 2010 4:16 PM EST reply actions

They Flyers had their chances. They F’d up.

by SkookFlyerfan on Jan 1, 2010 4:17 PM EST reply actions

Yup. Briere could’ve won it right at the end.

by PhillyFriar on Jan 1, 2010 4:21 PM EST up reply actions

Another game ended with piss poor play by the Flyers.

by pintium02 on Jan 1, 2010 4:17 PM EST reply actions

Too many men on the ice by Boston on that game-winner. The refs really wanted Boston to win despite missed opportunities by the Flyers.

by Will21 on Jan 1, 2010 4:18 PM EST reply actions

yea that was really beat didnt the flyers lead in that pim last year

by Leclairfan on Jan 1, 2010 4:18 PM EST up reply actions

It’s really difficult to watch hockey with all the missed calls. The integrity of the game is one thing that will always hurt hockey. With this speed, you have to have some backup to the refs if they really fuck up even a penalty.

by Will21 on Jan 1, 2010 4:18 PM EST reply actions

There goes the Danny Svret “superstar” thing. He just “that guy” who scored the goal

by SkookFlyerfan on Jan 1, 2010 4:19 PM EST reply actions

When i said:

“The biggest problem is that when Coburn screws up, it is winding up behind the Flyers goalie. Not only that, but when he screws up, it’s a highlight reel screw up.”

I should have predicted “game-winning goal in NHL Winter Classic” would be in his exhibits.

Broad Street Hockey - Makin' it look mean since 1967.

by Geoff Detweiler on Jan 1, 2010 4:19 PM EST reply actions

forget the missed calls…. flyers lost this one by themselves… 2 missed breakaways and alot more missed opportunities on odd man rushes… they couldnt put one to save their lives. they could have won this game a few times.

by edbro on Jan 1, 2010 4:20 PM EST reply actions

Carter and Ritchards just need to be benched.

but he was a backup for most of his career, and has been an average goalie outside of last season for all of that career. but this is team America and there really isn’t anybody besides Miller and Quick anyway.
