Mika Pyorala sent to Adirondack
As announced on the broadcast today, Mika Pyorala has been sent to the Adirondack Phantoms. A healthy scratch for the better part of the last two months, Pyorala will get the playing time in Adirondack that he so desperately needs to continue to condition his game to the North American style.
He has a two-way contract, so he doesn't have to clear waivers. His 500k cap hit comes off the Flyers books for now.

Good question.

Because it doesn’t matter.
Remember, I wrote about how Rathje means the Flyers can never save cap space. Not to mention Syvret and Parent now.
Without someone to replace Pyorala, from a roster perspective (not conditioning) it made no difference.
But why it took so long to send him down for a development and conditioning aspect is still a good question. Keeping Cote is different from keeping Pyorala.

Another question is why haven’t we done this with Cote?

I don’t think his contract is two-way.

We signed him...
to an NHL deal? Jesus this front office is hopeless. Either way he could clear waivers and I wouldn’t hold my breath on anybody mercifully taking him off our hands.

And losing him on waivers would really spell the end of our cup hopes…

Capgeek.com does have it listed as a one way contract, which surprised me a bit.

Because he’s a guy who only makes $550k, so he’s not costing the team anything. He doesn’t need to play in order to be effective, and if someone gets sick or has to miss a game on short notice, it’s good to have someone around to plug into the lineup, even if he’ll only get 4 minutes of ice time a game.
