Would you be willing to put up $5 for Dan Carcillo?
Editors Note: We wanted to bump this up to the front page to get some more promotion today. It's been on the right sidebar since Saturday.
Dan Carcillo was fined $2,500 for the throat slash gesture he made toward the Leafs' bench at the 56 second mark of the video above. TRat made a comment in another discussion about the fine that "the way [Carcillo] is playing of late, I'll pay the fine." I replied that it would only take a 5 dollar donation from 500 people to raise the 2,500 dollars.
About 1,500 to 2,000 people view BSH on a typical day. If 500 of us would be willing to put up 5 bucks to pay off Carcillo's fine, which is in the minds of most of us just flat out ridiculous, we'll collect the money in a PayPal account and we'll donate the proceeds to Flyers Charities in Carcillo's name.
We haven't received a ton of votes in the poll, but given the reaction this has received around the web, it looks like there's plenty of interest out there. Either way, vote in the poll below if you've yet to do so.

As long as he keeps playing like this- I’ll pay.

I voted yes, but I’m going to qualify that with a request: I want a promise that our names will be immortalized on a plaque and hung in the Wach.

I’ll pitch in but I don’t have a paypal account, and am Canadian, I might have to send you like $5.87 or something.
Hey you never know, some day’s we’re dead even. I was in Montreal last spring and only got 98 cents on the dollar because you guys were above us at that point… the conversion is only 1.03 today, so I’ll happily pony up the extra .15 for you if I need to :)

I traded in some Canadian currency last weekend and I got less than a buck on the dollar. I forget exactly what it was though.

Fine??
They fined him for that?? Really?? What a bunch of P%$$#ES!!! Dan Carcillo is a great guy and great player. He didn’t do anything out of line. And is there AUDIO to go with that video? I think not. Those PUNKS at the League might want to take that into consideration. This is definitely NOT the game I grew up loving. The League needs to wash out the sand and get on about their business.
I’ll put up $10, and Im sure other people would too if not more. Im also gonna put this on my facebook to see if anyone else wants to chip in if that ok with you Travis?
The more the merrier.

For what it’s worth I laugh every time Carcillo celebrates. He genuinely looks shocked at what he just did.
Follow the Penguins on SBN @ Pensburgh.com and twitter.
Carcillo doesn’t need my money but it would be both a sign of fan solidarity and Philadelphia unity if the 2500.00 was raised for a charity in the name of Carcillo by the Flyers faithful. This would benefit someone who could use the money and show how the fans actually responded to league issues.
I agree.

In all honesty, that’s how I expected it would end up anyway. We’d be a minor news story, and Carcillo would either decide on his own or be encouraged/forced by the PR people to put it into the wives’ charities fund.

I’d be shocked if the NFL fined this guy for this.

Don’t be. The NFL has been fining for the throat slash for a while now.

Really? Hm, do you have examples?

It's been around for awhile
Longer than I had initially thought, actually. The ruling was put in place towards the end of the 1999 season. So the NFL came out and officially stated that the throat slash gesture would be penalized and fined. Not sure (or, at least, I can’t find anything) if the NHL has been as explicit on the topic, or if this is just another reputation fine.
One player in the NFL (Mike Goodson) did get fined for it this season. Small, menial player, but I think it’s harder to find bigger names or more recent cases since this fine/rule has been around for such an extended period.
"In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
It’s probably being penalized under Rule 41(g):
A misconduct penalty shall be imposed on any player who persists in any course of conduct (including threatening or abusive language or gestures or similar actions) designed to incite an opponent into incurring a penalty.
Carbomb didn’t get a misconduct, but that’s the closest penalizable thing I can find to what he did.
"When you make your final stand
I'll be right there
I'll never leave
And all I ask of you is
Believe"
I voted yes. But if I had to send $5 it would cost me about $10 and then $50 in electronic transfer.
Even via PayPal?

I doubt it would cost you anything more than a conversion cost over paypal, I’ve bought shit overseas and used paypal to pay and never paid more than a penny that I needed to.
