Oskars Bartulis sent to Adirondack
This could mean a few things.
1) With Matt Walker out of the lineup, this puts the Flyers down to just six defensemen. That could be an issue if an injury happens.
2) The Phantoms are in Hershey this weekend, so it's possible they just wanted Oskars to get some ice time. He's waiver exempt so they can move him back and forth as they please.
3) Could a move be coming?

I’m thinking 2. If they were still not performing well and it were mid-late November, then I’d expect a trade.
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
Yeah, I remember Homer talking last year about the need to almost always carry seven D-men since the Phantoms aren’t just down the hall anymore. I can’t imagine this is anything permanent, unless there’s a trade coming, but I agree that I can’t think of anybody they could pick up that would instantly make an impact — and it’s not like they need a shakeup at this point.

Holmgren would have to be nuts, well nuttier than he is to move Oskars. He’s a decent defensemen at 600K with some playoff experience (yes he got owned, but still). Why not get him some ice time. I don’t think our D-men are our problem, its our offense and goaltending as usual.
I think the goaltending’s been shaky in part because the defense is letting up some great opportunities. I think the other part is lack of experience/understanding of North American hockey for Bob and the team seemingly not liking to play for Boucher.

I agree that he probably getting used to the game. He has let in some ‘soft’ goal. Its hard to judge so early, hopefully he stops the curse . . . . . hopefully. If Boosh is the better goalie he should start, no matter what team shows up. He may be our only hope if the team goes through another long stretch where they don’t score more that 2 a game.

I hope Oskars can help fix our pitiful team. Excited for him to be on the Phantoms, even if it’s just for one game.
Have the Phantoms been “pitiful” so far? That’s frustrating if so because there is a lot of talent on that team. Do you have any kind of diagnosis for what’s going wrong with them?

I watched roughly two periods of a Phantoms game last year, but based on some of what I’ve read, let me take an educated guess: Greg Gilbert.

It has to be Gilbert. We have seen him coach two teams with many different players, and the same things happen both times. The players look unmotivated and flat to start the game, and it gets worse from there. The defensemen leave more guys out in front of the net or just let people walk in, and Backlund usually is there to bail them out, but obviously he can’t every time. It’s frustrating because it’s so obvious that they just need to play more physical and more inspired, something that comes down to coaching, and with the talent that this team has (every player has shown some flashes of brilliance), there’s no reason that they under perform. Seriously, Gilbert can turn a 30 goal scorer into a single digit goal scorer in less time than Jody Shelley plays a night (bad joke)
I said this in the other thread, but I’ll say it here too:
I think it was simply a "get Bartulis some playing time."
The Phantoms played the Bears last night and again tonight, with Bartulis presumably playing in both. I imagine he’ll be with the club in Columbus on Monday morning.
