Don’t know what your policy is on linking to bleacher report, but I found this article by Ronnybrook about Carcillo’s influence on the Flyers special teams opportunities last year quiet good.
Philadelphia Flyers Fans Just Don’t Understand Daniel Carcillo

That is a really good article. The problem is that in the playoffs, Carcillo took 10 penalties and drew 7. So while he has an excellent point, that point disappears when looking at the playoffs.

That’s the thing that worries me moving forward, given his act on the playoffs, I’m going to guess he won’t draw as many this year. But that’s speculation and a guess at best.
Is this the right room for an argument?
Yeah, it’s purely speculation. But I share your worry in that refs are worried about being embarrassed by him and won’t let him draw so many. May not happen, but I fear it will.

I would prefer to play as much time as we can at even strength with the roster we have and our suspect goaltending 5 on 5 is a good thing. I want to roll four lines and stay out the of the box. With Lappy out our PK isn’t going to be as good and probably require more time from Richards and the other top guys so I say lets avoid the box at all costs and play good clean honorable hockey. WIth the talent we possess 1) we will get probably draw a fair share of penalties anyway and 2) won’t need a lot of PP time to succeed.
…so I say lets avoid the box at all costs and play good clean honorable hockey.
You do realize this is Flyers hockey you are talking about, right?

Exactly, we could play good, clean, honorable hockey and we’d get put in the box anyway. ;-)
Lightning strikes once, Hextall strikes twice!
Who plays good, clean hockey anymore anyway? I think this notion is largely a myth. All teams try to get away with stuff; it just has to be less egregious than what the Flyers often try. Matt Cooke certainly doesn’t play good, clean hockey.
Lex clavatoris designati rescindenda est.
But the decisions being made this week are not being made with just the postseason in mind. If they were, Jody Shelley would already be chained to the press box.

I’m wiling to chalk that up to needing two surgeries after the season ended. Were the splits any better for the Devils series, at least?
Either way, I think we regularly underrate his value. Related question: what you put Powe or Nodl on one of the top three lines over him?
I don’t know how it splits by round, as behindthenet.ca just updates live.
I agree his value is underrated, and this is a large reason why. Your related question: Personally, I’d put Nodl in the top-9 over Carcillo, but can fully understand people who disagree.

This is why I didn’t answer, I feel I’m too biased. But if you ever want to know if Nodl belongs, he has to play in the top 9.
Is this the right room for an argument?
haha, we’re both quite biased.

I can understand the argument for any of those three, really. I think Lavy will probably roll with Carcillo-Richards-[winger] now, and I’d support that, but my reasoning is no different than it was for playing Carcillo-Betts-Shelley on the fourth line: I want to see what we have with these player and their contracts. Nodl will have plenty of time to get minutes once injuries rear their head.
Also, given that Carcillo probably should in the line-up at this point, I’m assuming he’d be more effective at drawing penalties from a scoring line than a checking line.
Wait a minute, you mean the Caps existed before OV, and in the 70’s!!!!!!!!!! ;)
I bet 90% of the Caps fan base are reading Wikipedia right now so they can get their history right just in case somebody calls them out.
My teams are the Flyers, Phillies and the Steelers. Deal with it.

I’m the same way. Based on what I saw, I never thought he deserved a spot on the roster, but at the same time, I always thought he’d be given one regardless.
Is this the right room for an argument?
Same
I figured he’d get a spot no matter how he played, but Im actually happier to see a young guy get a crack. I like the farm players more then the vets personally.
Flyers 10-11 season slogan: "Remember Emery?"
Well you know excited if this means I get to watch more of Nodl. Finally, my Nodl jerseys will be recognized, and maybe people will stop confusing the St. Cloud St jersey for the Habs.
Is this the right room for an argument?
Maybe it will be recognized, but the St. Cloud State will still be confused.

Well the one I have does have the Hab’s like C on the front, it’s the one with St. Cloud St. written out on it…but yeah, their symbol is easily confused despite their colors being red, black, and white.
Is this the right room for an argument?
Guess that means it’s time for…
