I’d love that, my fantasy team would love that. I’ve been rollin’ only Luongo for the longest time and he has been disappointing.

but do we risk the loss of the offensive juggernaut we have going right now by starting boosh, we all know they don’t like to put up goals for the poor guy!

by cosmicblue on Nov 16, 2010 11:24 AM EST up reply actions

I really don’t get all this sit Bob play Boosh stuff. We all wanted a number 1 goalie. I know we are not used to it but we got a number 1 goalie in Bob he should be played like a number 1 goalie.

And by that I mean 65+ games a season. No more 50 and 30 or 40 and 40. And you don’t bench your number 1 when they are playing well.

Here is the list of goalies that played over 65 games last season.

1 Martin Brodeur NJD 77
2 Miikka Kiprusoff CGY 73
3 Henrik Lundqvist NYR 73
4 Jonathan Quick LAK 72
5 Evgeni Nabokov SJS 71
6 Craig Anderson COL 71
7 Ilya Bryzgalov PHX 69
8 Ryan Miller BUF 69
9 Roberto Luongo VAN 68
10 Marc-Andre Fleury PIT 67

Welcome to world of a real number 1. They play and play a lot get used it.

11 Jimmy Howard DET 63

1st year player also played a ton and would have played more if he Osgood didn’t start a lot in the beginning.

Bob is also currently ranked 8th in GP. He is not being over used he is being used like a his fellow top goalies. He is some GP vs Team Games Played to compared.

Halak 13/16
Kripper 14/16
Broudeur 16/18
Neuvirth 16/18
Ward 15/16
Bryzgalov 15/17
Luongo 13/17
Backstorm 13/16
Price 16/17

To name a few Bobs is at 14/18 and on a roll. No reason to take him out.

by chrislanci on Nov 16, 2010 12:22 PM EST up reply actions

the key ppoint is that Howard paid 63 games. That’s a far amount for Bobs to play this year(plus playoffs). But he’s still a rookie who needs some rest every now and again. He wasn’t really tested yesturday and he did let up a weak goal. I’m fine with hm starting more games in a row, but I would think it’s better for hiim to get a rest before the playoffs.

Really?

Did we not read yesterday’s thread about how goalies can wear out? In particular young goalies who are not used to playing so much?

Let’s look at your list.

2 Miikka Kiprusoff CGY 73
3 Henrik Lundqvist NYR 73

Missed the playoffs.

1 Martin Brodeur NJD 77
4 Jonathan Quick LAK 72
6 Craig Anderson COL 71
7 Ilya Bryzgalov PHX 69
8 Ryan Miller BUF 69

Lost in the first round. Quick and Brodeur in particular looked pretty bad.

9 Roberto Luongo VAN 68
10 Marc-Andre Fleury PIT 67

Lost in the second round. Did not look good.

5 Evgeni Nabokov SJS 71

Fine.

One out of ten ain’t a very strong argument.

Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?

by mikefive on Nov 16, 2010 12:46 PM EST up reply actions

Bernie Parent played 73 and 68 games in both Cup years.

Brodeur averaged over 70 games during his 3 cups as well.

Neither of those teams you mentioned were favorites to win those series. PHX and COL would not have made the playoffs if they didn’t ride their hot goalie all season. Bryzgalov took DET to 7 and Anderson had a 0.933 SV PCT versus a vastly superior SJS team.

The Rangers and Calgary sucked for many reasons that didn’t involve goaltending. Both Lundquist and Kripper were top 10 in GAA and SV PCT.

Howard vs Bob

Just to provide th eother side of that:
Bob, 32 and 35 games in the KHL
Howard: 39 at Maine, 42 in AHL/NHL, 49 in AHL/NHL, 58 in AHL/NHL, 46 in AHL/NHL.

So Howard only played 5 more games from his previous high.

Is this the right room for an argument?

by DLJr on Nov 16, 2010 12:48 PM EST up reply actions

First off, GP and games started are different things. Secondly, we are worried about total games played, but consecutive games started (and frequency of these games, but that’s too much research for me to do while at work, so I’m ignoring that for now). Bobs is sitting on 10 in a row. A sampling of the longest streak of games started for the aforementioned goaltenders:

Neuvirth: 7
Halak: 7
Ward: 6
Backstrom: 6
Price: 9

So, really, there’s only one analog for a starting goaltender getting this much work without rest. This is where it may get out of hand, though: Price had one back-to-back during that stretch. If Bobo plays tonight, not only will it be his 11th straight start, but his third back-to-back in that period. I think people over-inflated the need to rest your starter so often (every 6-8 games depending on your schedule is fine with me), but stringing out a chain of starts like this and staying healthy all season is probably untenable.

by Snevik on Nov 16, 2010 12:48 PM EST up reply actions

while we are worried about total games played, and we are more worried about consecutive games started

Fixed.

by Snevik on Nov 16, 2010 12:49 PM EST up reply actions

We had like 3-4 days off both weeks between games. These last 10 games were played over 24 days. With those 2 Back to Backs. So there was plenty of time to rest and relax during those breaks.

I think the bigger issue is consecutive days not consecutive games. As the schedule gets tighter Boosh will get his starts against the weaker teams.

by chrislanci on Nov 16, 2010 1:54 PM EST up reply actions

Are you just making up numbers? Oct 26th to Nov 15th is 21 days. 10 games in 21 days is .476 games per day. The 82 game NHL season is played over 184 days. Even if we subtract the post-Christmas off-week, that’s only a .463 games per day pace.

by Snevik on Nov 16, 2010 2:12 PM EST up reply actions

Just in November:

Game, two days off, game, one day off, game, game, three days off, game, one day off, game, one day off, game.

Including October, he’s played three games in four days, have two days off, play three games in four days, have three days off, then play three games in 5 days.

by DLJr on Nov 16, 2010 2:27 PM EST up reply actions

A better stat would be total games played and longest consecutive games started streak for goalies that played in the Stanley Cup Final. All your list shows is that the top 11 goalies in games played last year combined for just 5 playoff series wins with none of them making it to the Finals.

Its not like I go out of my way to give him shit, but lets face it, its become a routine.
Carter has clearly put that aside in order to sign a very Flyers friendly contract
He could have aked for more, and it would have been within his rights
I am thankful he did what he did, and hope he has tremendous success for the nest score of years

by Phalange on Nov 16, 2010 1:20 PM EST up reply actions

Dear person who cares about hockey,

It has recently come to our attention that people are generally unwilling to give you money for hockey tickets unless they are a) interested in hockey, or b) trying to impress a new corporate client. Through many years of intensive market research, we have determined that nobody down here cares about hockey. Also, due to current economic conditions, corporations have chosen to impress new clients with less expensive alternatives such as gift baskets of fresh-picked Florida oranges and grapefruit. Therefore, we have lots of extra tickets for this game. Since you are from the North and actually do care about hockey, we thought you might be interested. We would gladly sell these tickets to you, since you are interested in hockey and we are interested in money.

Love,
The Florida Panthers

I am really torn. What is better the Flyers leading the EAST and killing everyone they have played over the last two weeks or Colin Campbell in so much trouble that he might have step down.

by chrislanci on Nov 16, 2010 12:44 PM EST reply actions

In reading one of the links in that article….. and I didn’t know this but..

The Flyers offered Campbell the GM position for 5 years in 2006 (I’m guessing after Clarke stepped down, not sure, if somebody knows feel free to fill it in)

I could not imagine that man as our GM. I hope he steps down honestly, and somebody who can actually enforce suspensions will enter.

Maybe true, but really somebody who is in his position really shouldn’t be playing favorites and badmouthing players. I don’t care if he hands off Bruins stuff to other teams, I think that because he hates Savard that Cooke didn’t get suspended. I mean everybody hated that hit and Cooke for it.

But looking at what I said, I guess I’d rather have him where he is now than our GM (Shutters at that thought)

I don’t care who it is, you can’t trust one person to be fair and impartial. Over time, a bias may develop unintentionally, or you can have variations due to something as simple as how that person is feeling that day. It’s just human nature. You need a group of people to average out those biases and fluctuations.

One of my friends went to Edmonton at the start of this year and got to see the Oilers play, which is his favourite team. He went to a game so early that the doors weren’t open, but basically managed to get inside by telling the people on the door he was a New Zealander and travelled all that way just to see the Oilers play. He got given pre and post game pucks, he got to walk around Rexall when it was empty and he got to stand by the players tunnel as they came onto the ice and bumped fists with the Oilers.

My point: he saw a guy in the stands before the game that he thought might be Jeff Deslauriers, but he wasn’t sure so he went and asked him to sign a puck. Now he has a Devan Dubnyk signed puck.

He might have to get in early to avoid the rush?

Mourning Gagne forever.

i’d be more concerned about leaving early to avoid the riots.

Is this the right room for an argument?

Breaking news!

Simon Gagne cut his hair! O.O My life has just been given a totally new dimension. I think I’ve lost the little piece of sanity I had left. And I broke my Twitter with my updates on this. OMGAGNE! I need some pills to handle this.

I'm in love with the Lightning, the Flyers are my fling and I have a crush on the Flyers fans.

I’ve always liked Gags, cause he reminds me of my family (they have adorible Quebec french/english accents) He is lookin mighty fineeeee.
Meanwhile, my man Dan is on crutches hobbling away. He never knew I loved him! This is like a bad cheesy movie on ABC Family.

Let's do it again

Sweet, Gags and I have the same haircut!

I should grow a beard…

Hopefully for his sake it was the hair that was keeping him from playing/producing.

I think he looks hot with the new haircut. I lived through the 80’s and all the mullets, though, so I actually now prefer the clean look.

Lex clavatoris designati rescindenda est.

I’d love him even if he dyed his hair pink. I really love this new look but there’s something about his longer hair I really dig :)

Lookin’ good, Gags. Now get the fuck back into the lineup b/c I could really use a scoring LW on my team.

Its Gagne, you know that its gonna take him another 15 games after getting back to start producing again haha.

Yeah but it’s worth the wait. If I can’t have him on my TEAM (Flyers) I can have him on MY team (Flying Dutchmen)

Prospect report

Ranford and Riopel continue to play really well and everyone on the Phantoms is getting killed. What the hell happened to Backlund, 0.841 SV PCT this week. Is the team really that bad.

by chrislanci on Nov 16, 2010 5:52 PM EST reply actions

The team is really that bad.

Backlund’s season stats: 3-9-0, 3.90, 0.871
Stewart’s season: 0-4-0, 4.73, 0.846

Yes, Backlund is better than Stewart, but those numbers should tell you just how bad the team is.
