Bobby Clarke thinks that suspension was right than jesus how can we argue. Clarke defended the Downie hit and the Downie sucker punch to Jason Blake.
He should let Danny know a two hander across the ankle would have accomplished the same thing and probably not got him suspended.
Downie didn’t get suspended for the punch to Blake though I thought. But Blake is a grade A jag-off, I would have done the same thing.

After watching that fight, Crosby showed himself to be really strong the way he jerked that guy around. But he punches like a girl. Sidney is probably used to jerking guys up and down anyways so that fight proved nothing.

I was hoping for the Pronger BOYAHH of the day. We should start that to go along with comment of the night.
I wish they took the visors off though. But yeah Crosby is strong as hell, and throws pretty well for a 50 goal scorer. I’m fairly certain he’d drop either of us.
Is this the right room for an argument?
He’s very effective at yanking the other guy, keeping him off balance.
I’m pretty sure Dan Carcillo would be pissed if Crosby tried that on him.

Yeah once he got his skates under him, he pretty much just tossed Niskanen around like a rag doll. Still, if you are gonna drop immediately, take of those damn helmets with the visors.
Is this the right room for an argument?
Yeah, that’s the stupidest thing a scorer could do is try to fight someone with a shield. Then again if you’re not really planning on punching and just want to yank the dude, then maybe it’s not so bad.

They both definitely threw some. At first, that’s what I thought, Crosby was just yanking him down, and ending it. But they both threw punches, directed at shields. I guess you are more likely to just cut your hand on a shield, but you run the risk of Sheldon Souraying it on a face?
Is this the right room for an argument?
I thought I read somewhere that it is illegal to fight with a visor and you get a game misconduct? Is it more that if both players have visors it’s fine? Also the same thing goes with tape on your hand. I think it was one of the fights the Flyers had against either Pitt or the Islanders that one of their players had tape on their hand and didn’t get tossed? Can someone please explain for me? Thanks.

It’s an instigator penalty? I’ll have to look at the wording there becuase it makes so little sense.

His punches were shit, they had little or nothing behind them as Sidney wasn’t upright him to fire them. Lindros used to use the same ragdoll technique to get them off balance but he would throw a mean puch because Lindros stayed upright. Obviously Lindros is stronger but he did fight the bigger heavyweight guys so that should wash out. Crosby is too worried about getting hit and doesn’t try to set himself up to do any real damage.
Any pro Athlete should be able to beat my ass. But in Sneakers Crosby isn’t going to be able to toss my chubby ass around like that he will have to throw some punches.
Lindros could take on mogt regular fighters, not really a fair comparison. You know it’s hard as hell to throw punches on skates right?
Is this the right room for an argument?
I can barely throw punches standing flatfoot.

Lindros was 11 feet tall and bench press cities. It’s not that the comparison is bad, it’s that there is no comparison to make.
Crosby did fine. He’s not a fighter, but that was a good scrap. He’s strong for a little guy.
Lindros was 11 feet tall and bench press cities.
“He had forearms like tree trunks! And a shock of hair… Red, like the Fires of Hell!”
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
Did I ever tell you about the time Lindros took me out to go get a drink with him? We go off lookin’ for a bar and we can’t find one. Finally, Lindros takes me into a vacant lot and says, “Here we are!” Well, we sat there for a year and a half. Sure enough, someone constructed a bar around us! P. J. McGinty’s! Well, the day they opened it, we ordered a shot, drank it and then burnt the place to the ground. Lindros yelled over the roar of the flames, “Always leave things the way you found them!”
Crosby is too worried about getting hit and doesn’t try to set himself up to do any real damage.
Interesting take…my take, if he was that worried, he would have never fought in his career. You don’t say Shelley is worried about getting hit my holding people as far away from him as he can with his one arm, as he waits to use his hook with his free arm. If anything, Crosby puts himself at more risk for damage by just blindly throwing at the end of the fight.

Briere
That Kypreos article is interesting. Let us not forget what Briere did to Ovechkin after Alex boarded him into the open door. Look it up on Youtube- I’d post the link but I’m at work and youtube is blocked.
Yes, Danny holds grudges. I’m going to the Flyers-Caps game on Sunday here in DC with my family. Can’t wait! We’ll be the family that is split – me and my youngest son love the Flyers and will be sportin’ the orange and black, while my wife and oldest son will be wearing their Caps gear. Go, Flyers! I’m really hoping for a road win on Sunday.
Sarauj, Latvija!
Crosby is still a little girl. He fought a guy who had two carrier NHL fights before, Matt Niskanen. Both in 2008-09. One was against Shane Hindy and according to hockeyfights.com, Hindy won that fight 92.8%. The other one was with Corey Stillman, with Stillman taking that fight 93.6%.
Great job Sid, way to fire up your guys. I know its time to light a fire when your playing a non confrence foe, on the road, down by three, second period, agaisnt a guy who has lost his only two other fights. Real warrior here! Fight Richie! I would pay lots of money to see that. Someone on Pensburgh said now Crosby should go after Danny Briere. LOL. If he were to even think about stooping that low to fight Danny and not Richie he’d be silly. But my money is on Danny. He’s fought Mike Comrey before. AND dropped his helmet when he did it. If you are gonna square off of the draw, take a page out of your boy Matt Cooke’s book and drop your bucket.
Are you implying that Crosby is a tough guy and should only fight other tough guys. Crosby is an ELITE player (way beyong Richards status), he shouldn’t ever have to drop his gloves with anyone, and you are giving him shit for dropping them with someone who doesn’t really fight?!?
I’m fine hating on the guy, Chris’s comment was hilarious, but this just comes across as ridiculous blind hate with no substance behind it.
Is this the right room for an argument?
So is Giroux, as of recently. Giroux holds his own, with check of the night the last game. Invalid I say! Giroux could still kick Crosbys ass, and he’s “elite”
Let's do it again
You have an extremely loose definition of elite. Crosby is arguably the best player in the world, Giroux is arguably becoming the best player on the Flyers this year, that’s a huge leap.
But you are a homer, I understand, so I’m not going to argue with you over it.
Is this the right room for an argument?
Gwah. Not (but very) true. Theres been plenty of articles of how Giroux becoming “elite”. I don’t catagorize beyond being a good player or sucking. And I’m kinda grossed out by Crosby being elite. Its nasty. There are better, IMO
Let's do it again
Giroux becoming "elite"
1) Notice the word becoming
2) I consider elite to be top 5 in the game, maybe can expand to 10; and Giroux, as much as I love him, hasn’t cracked that list yet, despite his excellent 12 game start to the season and admirable playoff performances.
3) By article’s I’m assuming you mean the fluff piece that was on NHL.com. It’s great that he is getting the publicity, but the guy has yet to establish himself as the elite of the NHL. If he keeps up the pace he is on this season, he will go a long way to doing that though. Again, I love Giroux, his is one of my favorite players to watch in the league, but I also have my head glued on straight and recognize he isn’t in Crosby’s class yet.
4) Name me 5 players you think are better than Crosby in the game right now.
Is this the right room for an argument?
The top 3 for me are easy, after that, it becomes a whole mess in my mind b/c I start playing favorites with players I love. 1. Crosby, 2. Datsyuk, 3. Ovechkin. Ovie gets 3 because if I’m picking a fantasy draft, and my goal is to pick the players most likely to help me win a cup, the other 2 get the nod. If I’m picking to sell tickest it probably be 1a. Ovie, 1b. Datsyuk.
I’ll tell you who I never thought would be an elite talent in terms of being one of the best in the world that is quickly changing my mind…Stamkos.
Is this the right room for an argument?
Thats still 1 more career fight then Crosby has, and the same amount of career fights that Briere and Giroux have. I fail to see your point.
Flyers 10-11 season slogan: "Remember Emery?"

We’re probably the only two people wearing pearl snaps in the WFC on any given night.

Is this the right room for an argument?
I’ll bear the Cowboy brunt. I have a lot of western shirts.
Todd, you may direct all of your cowboy comments to me.
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
I’m just kidding, I don’t mind it at all, just making a joke and finding an excuse to go to Aukland.
Is this the right room for an argument?
Let’s form a post-hardcore band called Cowboy Brunt and make an album called Auckland.
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
There’s post-hardcore now? I can’t even keep up with these new genres. Make it as poser-ish as possible, and it will go down a treat in Auckland.
Mourning Gagne forever.
Too bad I don’t live in crappy Auckland. Seriously, it’s a terrible city. But actually, I wouldn’t mind having someone to talk hockey with face-to-face. The postdoc in my lab is a Penguins fan, and we haven’t managed to have civil discussion yet.
Mourning Gagne forever.
Haha I only want to go to Auckland b/c my HS mascot was an Auk, and even though they aren’t specifically from Auckland, I’ve had an interest in going. But more or less just want to make my way to New Zealand at some point in my life after meeting a sheep farmer from New Zealand when I was traveling across Western Canada and Alaska. He (Rex was his name) has to be the coolest old guy I ever met.
Is this the right room for an argument?
I never put the two together. I wonder if that’s actually where it got it’s name from. “A sheep farmer from New Zealand” has to be one of the most cliche’d things ever.
Mourning Gagne forever.
From NZ.com!
New Zealand’s first governor, Captain William Hobson, chose Auckland as the capital. Hobson decided upon the name Auckland, in honour of his patron and former commander, Lord Auckland (at that time, the viceroy of India).
Mourning Gagne forever.
Haha, yeah I know that had nothing to do with the Auk. I just know they have found it’s fossils in New Zealand, and I knew New Zealand had a city Auckland…so if my interest in New Zealand stemmed from an animal called Auk, why would I not want to go to Auckland.
And that’s a glimpse in to the mind of a slow person….better known as Don.
Is this the right room for an argument?
Yeah, the museum in Wellington has a pretty sweet skeleton. NZ has other cool birds…most of them are extinct though.
Mourning Gagne forever.
haha, i know. But I just think the complete opposite of what OrangeNblack said. Pitt has been playing pretty crappy, and were losing to a Dallas team that isn’t anywhere near as talented. he did what any good captain would do, he fought someone. Yeah, the guy he fought wasn’t a heavyweight by any means, but do you really expect Crosby to go head to ead with a guy like Ott? Richards went after Cooke because Richards can compete with him.
Also, I say a Crosby and Briere fight would be awesome. We all know Richards can beat Crosby in a fight, but I want to see two non-fighters go head-to-head.
Flyers 10-11 season slogan: "Remember Emery?"
I think a Crosby vs Richards fight would be closer than people think. But there is no reason for Crosby to fight anyone on the Flyers b/c he torches them every game on the scoreboard.
Is this the right room for an argument?
That’s exactly why I don’t want it to ever happen. Should Richie lose…it’s over. I don’t even want to think about it.

Geoff what was Hatchers advStats when he was here. I’m pretty sure he wasn’t as bad as people always say he was.
But I disagree, I loved Hatcher here. I don’t see how he was even a bad signing.
Flyers 10-11 season slogan: "Remember Emery?"
Well, BtN only goes back to the year that shall not be named, which I don’t think anybody wants me to look at.
So the year after (07-08) he only played 44 games. Here are the bullets:
- He had a 41.7% offensive zone start, third worst on the team (Kukkonen and Smith were slightly worse);
- And he moved the puck forward – he had the second highest offensive zone finish at 49.8%;
- He faced average competition (-0.001), but that was fourth highest on the team, indicating he was on the second pair;
- He had the best teammates by a good margin (0.188);
- Only Timonen took fewer penalties per 60, though Hatch did take 0.8 per 60 minutes;
- He was in the middle in GAON/60 at 2.28, with Timonen, Coburn, and Kukkonen besting him, Jones, Smith, and Modry trailing;
- The offense worked pretty well for him (2.36 GAON/60), ranking third on the team behind Coburn and Jones;
- That’s a plus 0.08 GON/60, again behind only Coburn and Jones;
- He wasn’t much of a scorer (obviously), registering 0.42 Pts/60, ahead of only Kukkonen and Modry;
- His Relative Corsi suggests he was average, again, at -0.9, behind Coburn, Jones, and Timonen.
Conclusion
For those who didn’t want to read through all that: Hatcher was a good #3 or 4 defenseman that year, with Coburn and Timonen being the best d-men on that team. Hatcher was battling Jones for the #3 spot, but really… I think that would have been a decent pairing. Let Hatch play D, let Jones skate.
In the playoffs, it appears they used that pairing to a good amount of success. Without save percentage numbers, however, I can’t tell if it was luck or skill, since the pair got severely outshot, though gave up very few goals.

Crosby talks shit and takes runs and lots of Briere esque dirty stick work. But Richards a guys the same size as Crosby actually Crosby is listed as 5lbs heavier. He won’t go. Danny is giving away 20 – 30 lbs he shouldn’t be fighting anyone. Plus both guys where the C.
Why is this in response to me? I never said Crosby should fight Briere…I just said a fight with Crosby is a lose/lose situation for Richards.
Further, Crosby shouldn’t fight either guys, he is an ELITE player, neither Briere or Richards are in his class as far as caliber of player goes.

Make me appreciate BSH. I just went onto the CBS Sportsline boards, and there literally are people there arguing that Matt Carle is a better defense man than Kimmo Timonen because Kimmo “doesn’t hit any body” and" plays soft."

Other gems, Andrej Meszaros is clearly worth his contract but Scott Hartnell isn’t, Jody Shelley was a good signing at his current salary because Boogaard got more money, trading Gagne was necessary because of the cap situation(completely ignoring that Homer put himself into that situation and on an on and on…

I watched that game on the NHL network last night and saw the Clarke thing about Briere. Although he did say it was fair because he was a repeat offender, Clarke had that sour taste in his mouth look. Where he agreed because he is aware of the new NHL, but you could tell that the thought of a guy grazing some guy on a face off tustle gets you 3 games he was about to throw up in his mouth. He also said Belfour for the HHOF over Lindros, what a stretch, Newindyk(?) and Bure. I thought that was funny since he has said that he thinks Lindros does deserve the HOF.

I think Danny is more upset because as an older player, he played before all these shots were still allowed.
Flyers 10-11 season slogan: "Remember Emery?"
I think he was genuinely upset over that fact that he really didn’t make direct contact to Neilsen’s head. He grazed over the top. It was almost like in baseball when a pitcher throws behind a batter. It was a message. If he wanted to break Neilsen’s face he sure as hell could have done that.

But growing a mustache doesn’t exactly mean you’re supporting charity… How do I get my mustache to help mens’ prostates?

I personally believe that there should be a monthly BSH shootout, and the winner has to grow his mustache for the whole month. The Pens do this a lot

Also, more about the academic calendar:
I’d be more than willing to make the trip during Christmas vacation. But finishing out this semester has been the most difficult, and having a poor LSAT outing in October requires me to finish the semester strong

I need more notice even at 29 it will still take me until December to grow a mustache. I can rock an awesome Koy Detmer neck beard though.
I have the same problem. Give me a month and I’ll look like Crosby in the playoffs. It’s that sad.

Surgery...who pays?
I have a couple of questions. If a player needs surgery, does the team pay for that, or does the cost (or some part of the cost) come out of the player’s pocket (perhaps, the team offers the players a health insurance plan just like any other employer)? A number of players (Pronger, Leighton, and Leino) have recently had surgery and I was just curious how that worked. Also, who makes the decision on whether a player will have surgery? For example, the decision for Leighton to have back surgery was made pretty fast, but what if he had wanted to wait a few more weeks to see if the back would heal up a bit on its own – could he have done that? As a player under contract, how much decision making player does he have vs. the team’s decision on how to proceed. Thanks.
Sarauj, Latvija!
Wasn’t there that player on the Preds or the Blues or something this offseason where his team at first refused to pay for his shoulder surgery because they said it was an injury he got from playing tennis and not hockey? His agent took it to the media all, “This is an outrage!” and the team relented. Oh, it was Stephane Veilleux and the Lightning, apparently So it sounds like the team/their insurance pays if it’s a “work injury” but if someone broke their leg from falling off the roof while cleaning their gutters, or flipped their motorcycle or something, the player needs their own insurance. Things like taxes and insurance for athletes seems super complicated to me.
Article 23.5 of the CBA says:
The Clubs shall pay the cost of a Hospital, Major Medical and Dental Plan for the
Players that provides benefits agreed upon through collective bargaining between the
NHLPA and the Clubs.
This is in addition to serious disability and life insurance policies. There’s nothing about surgery, though I’m sure that falls in either Major Medical or Hospital

Just curious but is what Crosby does even really allowed to be considered fighting?
It’s more like violently jerking a guy around until the refs break it up.

Wrong. And your bias is based on the fact that he threw em with Ference.
Is this the right room for an argument?
Oh, how many then?
I remember the Ference one, was there another?

You could have read the thread and found out…but…Ballard handed it to Crosby after Crosby went after him for hip checking Malkin. Crosby dropped McLean right off the face off, pretty dirty play. Then Crosby also destroyed Zidlicky.
Is this the right room for an argument?
OK, thank you

I was just asking I question. I thanked him for the answer. How is that any harm?
I understand the suspicion because of past events, but as I proved in my fanpost I am ready to move on.
