First off, what a great winning streak that was, and lets hope the point streak continues. Beating Carolina and Florida are things that we have to do this year every time if we want to stay atop the standings. It would be great to give Boosh a start, and to score a few in front of him, although Bob has been A-MAY-ZING. Now for some random questions thrown together in a fan post.
1. The Flyers have four retired numbers: Bernie Parent (1), Barry Ashbee (4), Bill Barber (7), and Bobby Clarke (16). No Flyer will ever wear these four numbers ever again right? All other numbers (except Pelle's unofficial 31 retirement) are all fair game, right? I just want to make sure I have that correct.
2. Sergei Bobrovsky... is he the real deal. Do you feel comfortable calling him the goalie of the now and the future. If someone said that we signed him on a 10 year deal for say- 25 million total to start after his third year (10/2.5 per from 25-34 years old) would you be okay with that? I know the numbers are not totally realistic, although I'm sure if we offered it right now, there is no way he would turn down 25 million. Tied for 7th in the league with 11 starts. Tied for FIRST in the league with 8 wins. Of the 19 goalies with 10 games started he is one of three with at most two regulation losses. 8th in the league in GAA (2.19), but 6th if you take out the two back-ups with 6-8 starts above him. 8th in save % (.926). I don't know how to accumulate or find any goalie advanced stats, but feel free to add them, as I'm sure they are pretty good.
3. Is this Flyers team going to keep up this consistancy that it showed in the playoffs and over the past few weeks? This team has been so much fun to watch because it has so many great players on it. Bob is a show himself. Pronger and Timonen are two of the best vets in the league. OD and Mez have been everything we dreamed of and Coby and Carle are continuing to progress. Giroux is finally being seen as a top guy in the league, like he should be. Richards is playing great with guys that we didn't dream would be on his line. The LBH line hasn't lost a step. Our fourth line is among tops in the league. (Have to throw in a Shelley reference, sorry) Every time one of our guys drops the gloves we know that there is a more than good chance we will have a great, entertaining fight; and we COULD win it (Unlike Cote, where we prayed he didn't need to be carted off). Zherdev is starting to play like the phenom he was once supposed to be and on top of everything: Carter has been quiet and JVR has done nothing. They can only get better from here. And oh yeah, Andreas Nodl has been great and so has Wellwood. This team has been so much fun to watch every game, and I hope the effort stays. Well go hot and cold, no matter how consistant a team can be they will throw a couple duds up there, but as long as guys know that if they play bad they're in the press box next game, the effort will be there. We have 15 legit NHL forwards for a 12 man roster. 3 are out. Incentive to get on the ice is there. We have 8 legit PP guys. Incentive to be in that top 6 for an individual game is there. We've got kids waiting in the wings on defense... If anything happens on the blue line we should be okay.
Happy Monday, I just wanted to get this all off of my chest.
