Philadelphia Flyers forward Jody Shelley has been suspended for two games and fined by the NHL for his hit on Boston Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid on Saturday.
Shelley was given a five-minute major for checking from behind and a game misconduct 5:08 into the second period after shoving McQuaid while both players were racing for the puck. McQuaid, who just missed hitting the boards head-first, remained on the ice for several minutes before finally being helped off by teammates.
Shelley will forfeit $11,827.96 in salary, which will go to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Good, now I don’t have to worry about him taking up space against the penguins tomorrow.

Semin
I"m not gonna argue the Shelley suspension because he deserved it. But did anyone see the cross check to the back of a Colorado player’s head that Semin did? with no suspension by the way.
I did not see this hit before now. How is this not worse then Danny’s cross check earlier this season? Semin actually connected Danny did not. If Semin was a Flyer you can bet he would have got at least 2 games.

If Semin was a repeat offender, he would have gotten at least 2 games.

Maybe Colin Campbell is scared Semin will play the bongo’s on his back if he suspends him

That’s not bad enough to suspend a non-repeat offender?

All I was responding to was the conspiracy theory that Semin would have gotten 2 games if he was a Flyer. That ignores the fact that Briere got 3 games because he was a repeat offender. Doubleh’s comment is a good critique, but I was just trying to dispel the conspiracy notion.

How do you become a repeat offender unless you are punished the first time? This chicken-egg scenario is what allows Crosby and Ovechkin to get away with things for so long.
Lex clavatoris designati rescindenda est.
as the flow chart reads
“No, he does this all the time but since we never suspend him- we just keep saying he has no prior record and hope nobody notices” = No suspension, cut and dry.

Ovechkin would’ve won the Richard and the Art Ross if he got away with things last season.
But yep otherwise I get your point.
Simon Gagne may move between towns, wear new jerseys and call different arenas home, but at the end of the day, he will always be a Philadelphia Flyer.

wtf man, I haven’t seen that hit until I watched that link, and he should be suspended, repeat offender or not.
But the way it works, since he hasn’t offended before, if he does it again, he won’t be a repeat offender since he hasn’t been suspended I bet. If he was on the Flyers I’d bet he’d have 5 games. Easily.

Saw this one in person from about 5 rows back. I can’t believe it wasn’t a suspension. After this call the game got out of control too. Stupid wheel of justice strikes again.

Wow, not only should he be suspended, but he should have to go to anger management classes. WTF? I watched it a few times to see if anything was done that would have “set him off” but he just goes ape because the guy gave him a little shot. What a b*tch.

Shelley deserved the suspension. Does this mean our 4th line is Z, Powe and Carbomb for the next two games?

Haha. Whoops. Totally forgot Betts.

?
Did Betts get hurt??? Did I miss that? I figured that the fourth line would be Carcillo, Betts, and Powe. Zherdev could play there, or up with Carter and Giroux, or also with Richie and Noodle. But PLEASE tell me Betts isn’t injured???

~10 hours a week is not employed in my book. If you prefer the term underemployed I guess that would work as well.

Shelley deserved this…maybe not two games but at least one.
As for Semin’s non suspension, pretty incredible when you consider how hard he hit the BACK of the guy’s head. Takes a real tough guy to hit someone from behind.

Following the trend ...
All the Flyers have to do is win the next two games. Since Coach Lavvy goes with consistency when he wins, if the team pulls 3 or 4 points from the next two games, Shelley should remain a healthy scratch after the suspension is over. That woul dmake many of us very happy indeed …

I’m thinking that as well. I’m just hoping that the 4th line with Carcillo plays well and Lavi won’t have a place to put Shelley back in the lineup.

Puck Daddy was implying that
Shelley only got suspended because the Flyers were playing the Bruins, and you know whos son plays for the Bruins.
Actually not too bad of a theory.
