Flyers Outscore Kings, Win 7-4
(Disclaimer: I saw nary a second of this game).
This is the best the Flyers have looked all year.
After the jump, questions answered and your comment of the night.
Questions Answered:
1. Michael Leighton's first game since... you know. What's the deal? Sam Carchidi of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Michael Leighton allowed four goals in this game.
2. Kimmo Timonen is playing, but you know he's not 100 percent. Does he show his injury? You jackasses didn't mention Kimmo Timonen's performance once in the comments, so who the hell knows?
3. Both teams were completely obliterated in their last games. Extra jump off the start? If by jump you mean a failure to close a five-hole, then yes, it started with jump. I read Martin Brodeur's autobiography, and he posits that jumping is not a sound method of goaltending. He did, however, have great things to say about Red Lobster.
4. Defensively, the Flyers have been terrible across the board in the last two. Any improvement in that department? According to my Algebra II teacher Mr. Evans, 4 < 6. Therefore, we have improvement in that department.
Comment of the Night:
To the tune of Auld Lang Syne
May Michael Leighton’s legs be shut
and the puck not go through the fiive
For puck’s sake Michael close your legs
now let’s get this fucker tied --KreiderDesigns
True story : Auld Lang Syne is one of the two songs I can play on piano.
I've had December 31st marked on my calendar for so long. Not because it's New Year's Eve, but because I thought I was going to get to watch Danny Syvret.
Go Flyers.

I didn’t see the game, did see some random highlights…Leighton’s rebound control looked exceptionally awful, was that truly the case?
Also…on the Flyers power play goal that Carter scored…it looked like Richie had a wide open net but decided to pass it to Carter out in front…hard to criticize something that worked but it did seem odd given that Carter was blanketed pretty well.

1) Leighton looked VERY average. There were at least two scrambles in front of the net where Leighton wasn’t even in the crease and Flyers had to clear the puck out of the blue. He’s lucky the offense woke up in a big way because this easily could’ve been a 8-7 Tampa loss replay.
2) On that Carter goal, Richie had two Kings and Bernier sliding towards him when he faked his shot. If he’d fired it top shelf it probably would’ve gone in but the pass was smart.
Ever been really tired because you stayed up late, then can’t understand why the light in the bathroom isn’t going on, even though you’re definitely turning the faucet on the sink?
Yep my bad, the nightmare of that goal has me not thinking straight. We would’ve had a Game 7 if Carter had lifted the puck higher on Niemi.

@kngfan004, How many Philly fans were there? Sounded like a large contingent.

@Voice Of Reason, There were a ton of Philly fans there. I could see them everywhere from where I was sitting in 114.

Clement
Watching the replay of the game made me realize one thing I really miss…..Bill Clement in the booth. He seems to be a calming influence on JJ and Coatesy, whereas Jonesy just gets silly with them. PLEASE BROADCAST MORE GAMES WITH BILL!!!
I love Jonesy. Love Clement too, but can’t stand that idiot Coatsey. He contributes nothing but glaringly obvious commentary, and a homerism I’m almost ashamed of.
I agree with both of you.
I prefer Clement over Jonesy, but I still like Jones. I don’t think he’s suited for Coatesy’s job though. Maybe get Cechmanek to replace Jonesy?

As a color guy, Clement is great. I just love Jonesy’s attitude. He’s hilarious to me. I’d like JJ, Clement and Jones in the booth all the time, I don’t even need to hear Coatesy jibbering and jabbering. His interviews are terrible, and his analysis could be done by Stevie Wonder.
Cechmanek reminds me of the hitman in the movie The Professional…..
No women no children. Anybody else notice that Coatsey starts all his commenting with “I was looking over his shoulder”. My wife pointed it out to me last year and now it could be a legetimate drinking game.

I was at the game last night and it was great. Way more orange and black. One funny story, one observation:
LA has a mascot named “Bailey”. It’s a guy in a lion’s costume. Anyway, early in the game the mascot is down at the glass serious harrassing a linesman. I was sitting right behind the time keeper’s area and saw the linesman go over to the officials and demand that Bailey be removed. As Flyer fans we loved the fact that the home team’s mascot had been ejected from the game.
The observation: The first line out for the Flyers was Nodl, Carter, Leino. Look at the box score for the third period goal. Don’t know where the Daily News got their line combos from.
