There's not a franchise in sports I hate more than the Philadlphia Flyers.
Not the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Not the New York Yankees.
Not the Dallas Cowboys or L.A. Lakers.
No, you'd have to have an Olympic Games flashback to 1936 and watch the pride of Hitler's Germany marching into the Berlin stadium to match the feeling of revulsion I experience every time I see the Flyers play.
Especially against the Canadiens.
-- Montreal Gazette Columnist Mike Boone
Elsewhere on his site, he called the Flyers "***holes". Love you too, Montreal. And yes, he spelled Philadelphia wrong.

Wow. Hitler references are always classy and appropriate.

Nothing like a professional journalist comparing a hockey team to a man who killed 6 million of Jewish origin over 60 years ago.
I can’t wait for his next piece, where he compares the Cambodian Killing Fields to the Wachovia Center.

Not even just Jews, one of my ancestry groups was nearly completely eradicated. How the heck can anybody with even a tiny sliver of a soul go there? And it’s not like Montreal doesn’t have a large, active Jewish community, so he can’t pretend that his own readers wouldn’t be offended.

Look, I dislike the Flyers as much as the next non-Flyer fan, but… seriously? What an incredibly insensitive moron.

I’m going to invite the guy to come on the podcast this week. He can say this to our face if he’s man enough. We’ll see.

His radio show is just as fanatical as those two are on TV, though.

Oh, well, I honestly don’t know about any of that. Don’t watch or listen to any of them. I prefer this guy:

I hate the Flyers and all, but Boone realize this is just sports, right? Comparing any sports team and its fans to a maniacal dictator who systematically killed millions of people is ridiculous and downright disgusting. It’s a rare day when I actually will stand arm in arm with Flyers fans, but today would be one of those days.

Now, when Mike Wise compared us to Megadeth Security, that was funny. Hell, even Dave Mustane made a comment about it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwpcKlL3Cx8
Oh, This is bound to be good
You can't, but you thought that You could
I thought Mike was referring to only the female flyers fans when he made that comment

Flyers men don’t listen to that sissy Megadeth crap.
Killer_Carlson and Steckel Me Elmo are like brothers to me. And when I say brothers I don't mean like actual brothers. I mean it like how black people use it, which is more meaningful, I think.

Ha. I was going to either say Mastadon or Opeth but didn’t want to guess wrong. Personally, I’ll take Between the Buried and Me.

There’s only two concept albums I like : Husker Du’s Zen Arcade and Mastodon’s Leviathan. Any band that wants to pay homage to Melville with a metal record about Moby-Dick…what’s not to like.
I officially knight you Sir Old School. Can’t go wrong with the Huskers, at least until around Candy Apple Grey.

If I can’t change your mind, then no one will…
Do you guys listen to WKDU? They like them some 80s stuff and it’s still good to hear. Descendents, Naked Raygun, Wipers, Dead Milkmen, etc. Love it.
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
For me, I think there’s some sort of obligation to listen to WKDU that goes with being a student there… but yeah, there’s definitely some times that they’re playing great stuff

That’s good to hear. Years ago I met a Drexel student at a party and somehow WKDU came up. I mentioned that I listened fairly regularly and she put her hand on my forehead as if taking my temperature and said, “What’s wrong with you?”
It was not a reaction I was unaccustomed to. I was a DJ for four years at my college radio station and the student body wanted NOTHING to do with it because we didn’t play what commercial radio stations played.
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
I can’t say everybody did, but personally, I felt everybody should at least give a try… I went in as a transfer, so my circle of friends were already converted before I got there, and it happened to be a lot of music I’d already heard of. I didn’t interact much with the freshman (other than helping them get their community service hours), so I can’t say what it’s like for them.

Chase Utley is so good that on one pitch he stole second, third and the shortstop's hat.
Awwww...
… I feel sorry for this guy. At the end of the day, he’s still got his panties in a bunch about this.
It’s worth the almost 10 minutes of viewing time, just to hear the disappointment in the CBC announcers’ voices.

Is it wrong that I was expecting this guy to be someone who was in his mid 20’s and somewhat new to this whole writing thing and thus maybe didn’t really consider the ramifications of his words? Only to find out that the guy is like 60 and in all honesty probably knows someone who is a survivor of the very man he just compared to a hockey team? This guy might honestly be the biggest scum bag to ever learn how to use a computer.
The fact that he is older does not surprise me, actually. Back in the BSB days the whole league hated us, but the Canadiens ESPECIALLY did. They were the purveyors of “beautiful hockey” and the Flyers’ style went against everything they believed in. If you read old interviews from the late 1970s, the Habs’ players openly gloated about the Flyers being “on their way down.”
Last season (or perhaps earlier this season) the hockey writers for the New York Times said that one of the top 10 hockey moments of all time was the Canadiens sweeping the Flyers in the 1976 finals. According to them, that sweep represented the end of our dominance, which was a good thing since we set the game back about 50 years in their estimation.
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
I don’t care about the political incorrectness. I joke about inappropriate things all the time. I just love the gut reaction to our team. It makes a win all the more satisfying.
