All Favorite Flyer Team
I know most of my posts are completely random and out of no where, but I love to spark up a new conversation every once in a while when the forum isn't as poppin as it usually is, so here goes... Being young enough not to be able to remember the great teams of the 80's or 70's I'm only going to use Flyers that I actually watched enough to love.
I wish I could say that I had the pleasure of being able to remember Hextall but unfortunately I don't. The first goalie that I really loved was The Beezer. There was something about that sparkly helmet that was great, but I think I hated him more than I loved him because my first memory of him was crying after his Panthers knocked us off in the mid 90's. When I was at the peak of my roller hockey carrier a young Brian Boucher gave this team a wonderful ride, and being a goalie I loved him. I've had the pleasure of meeting him and he's just a great dude. He's my goalie.
Back at the defensive position there is are a few guys on this team that might make the list but I'll start earlier. First things first, I wasn't a huge Desjardins fan when he was playing, so I'm leaving him off the list. There are three defensmen that I loved, although they aren't the most popular guys that most of you will remember: Dan McGillis, Luke Richardson, and Chris Therian. Fast forward to the post lockout guys and there are four that I love: Jason Smith (he was an Effin warrior), Chris Pronger, and Kimmo Timmonen. Unfortunatly I'm leaving Smith off the squad because I must give the 6th spot to Derian Hatcher. His performance in the playoffs his last year was nothign short of amazing, especially when he logged 30 minutes a game on one leg.
Forwards. Two must haves for any Flyer fan my age: John LeClair (no brainer for anyone) and Eric Lindros (I was young enough not to hate him for reasons I couldn't understand). My favorite fighter: Not Cote, not Brasher, but Tie Domi's best friend Sandy McCarthy makes my squad. I'm gonna round up my fourth line with two guys who's hearts are unmeasurable: Sami Kapanin and Ian Laperriere. My energy line, kind of Ironic because they were traded for eachother, but Ushall and Carcillo make my favorite flyers. That leaves five guys left: One on my first, one on my third and an entire second line. Knuble, Gagne, Richie, Carter, Umburger are the five guys. Umburger being probably my favorite flyer of all time. Knuble goes to energy line, Gags goes to line one, Imagen that speed on the Legeion of Even More Doom, and Richie, Carter and Umburger go on the second line.
Hope these names bring back some good memories, and I'd love to see where some of these guys rank against some even older guys.

Just a note that im 20 years old born in 1989 so keep that in mind
Leclair – Roenick – Recchi
Gagne – Primeau – Brindamour
Lindros -Umberger – Mactavish
JVR – Richie – Giroux
Desjardins- Pitkanen
Pronger – Johnson
Timonen – Ninama
Hextall – Nitty – Leighton
Line 1: Obvious Leclair, dude was an ox and really nice when I met him. JR was the man he was truly a class act and inspired the fans. Recchi, despite the fact he scored on us in the Classic, i still live the guy i feel like he put his heart out there for the team.
Line 2: Gags, While he might not be performing amazing this season Gags has been here forever and I will always remember when he scored in OT of Game 6 cause I was there. Primeau enough said, the guy did everything. Rod Brindamour He plays with alot of heart and was a staple in Philly for a long time.
Line 3: Lindros, while I might hate him when i was younger I loved the guy he was the man he just owned people on the ice. Umberger, he is a great guy and that performance in the playoffs was amazing. Mactavish, I have no idea why i like him but i do
Line 4: JVR is probably my second favorite Flyer of all time despite his short career so far, I just love the guy, hes a great player and I know he is the future of our team. Mike Richards is my favorite flyer ever. People will bash on him and say strip him of the captaincy but the dude is a tank, he scores and he sticks up for his teammates (not as much as Carbomb but…) Richie should be a flyer and Captain for his career in my OPINON. Giroux, dude is a boss, absolutely amazing future of our organization.
D1: Desjardins one of the best defensemen I have ever seen play the game. Pitkanen great speed contributed in the points department, played great d what more can you want?
D2: Pronger, hes the man he is a great veteran presence and he a machine on the PK clearing the puck. He also is a great enforcer and container. Johnson just love him
D3: Kimmo hes a horse love him. Ninama love the name good d.
Hextall best Flyers goalie i ever saw period. Nitty, I just love nitty i think he has a lot of heart. Leighton guys puts it all out there every game for us sign him and give him the keys.
Great idea for a post btw
Craigy Mac wasn’t a defenseman.

Mike Comrie!!!!!!!!!
JK, but just like sjuhawk, i was born in 89 too, so my list is based off the mid 90’s to today. mine would prob Leclair or Tocchet. JR and and Kap-attack are close, and Carcillo has a good chance to be right up there.
"NO HONOR"
L1: LeClair – Lindros – Renberg
L2: Propp – Poulin – Knuble
L3: Podein – Roenick – Tocchet
L4: Gagne – Brindamour – Recchi
D1: Howe – Timonen
D2: Therien – Desjardiens
D3: Johnsson – McGillis
G1: Hextall
G2: Nitty
All of this years’ 3rd and 4th line players have a good shot at cracking my all time favs.
I always liked Bundy – He complimented Desjardeins very well and he was a great Flyer and a solid defenseman for a long time – especially back in the 90’s.
That said, I’d definitley have to add Brad Marsh to the lineup… I can’t believe I forgot about him.
I was also a big fan of that “All Minnesota” line of Klatt – Otto – Podein…

Man, am I old!
Good fan post but the last 20 years have been some of the more frustrating years to even be a fan of this team as they came close a few times but in the end overachieved without enough big time talent to get them over the top. My first Flyers game was when I was six and that was 1974. Some of my favs over the years.
Centers: Clarke, Lindros, MacLeish, Poulin Alternates: Linseman, Bridgeman
Left Wingers: Barber, LeClair, Propp, Lonsbery Alternates: Schultz, Hartnell
Right Wingers: Leach, Recchi, Kerr, Tocchet Alternates: Gorrence, Dave Brown
Defensemen: Dupont, Howe, McCrimmon, Desjardins, Joe Watson, Bladon Alternates: Jim Watson, Marsh
Goaltender: Parent Alternates: Lindbergh, Peters
Do you think any current guys could knock anyone off the list? Mostly they are not proven yet and not impressing especially by underachieving. And although Timonen might make my list of D, Pronger is a carpet bagger at the end of his career, Gagne has been mostly frustrating and there hasn’t been a goalie on this team since Hextall the first time but he was not better than Lindberg and Peters was a personal choice.
a look at Pronger's numbers
Gagne and Carter are the last 40 goal scorers this team has had since Lindros and LeClair and Gagne ranks in the top 10 of Flyers points all time. I remember McCrimmon being kind a D-Bag with contracts and that ended poorly, Pronger might be at the end of his career but his on pace for the most points he has had since his MVP year and +22 is ridiculous Desjardin best plus/minus as a Flyer was 30 and highest point total was 50 Pronger is going to past those bests easily this season. Kimmo best with this team was on +19 with 44 points Pronger has 42 already. Basically Pronger is having the best season a Flyers D-Man has had in over a decade maybe more probably going back to Howe’s 82 point +85 (jesus christ) 1985 season and Howe’s 1986 season of +57 with 58 points.
Your stats are correct on Pronger but 1/2 a season playing for the team at 35 years old doesn’t get you on the all time favorites for me, just my opinion. McCrimmon might of had business problems with the Flyers but he deserved the money because they don’t call you “the Beast” for nothing, that guy was a horse. Gagne has been successful but he has frustrated me more than I have loved him. And yes injuries aren’t his fault but he hasn’t strapped it to his back and towed the load in my opinion. With all of the past heroes of this organization I remember Carter still has a ways to go before I put him on my favorites list. One season at 46 goals and nothing in that first round eats my ass. I hope in a few years if he is still here I can say favorite but not yet.
LCB
Legion of Doom 2.0 = LeClair-Lindros-Kerr (even bigger and badder)
Recchi-Primeau-Gagne
Briere-Richards-Handzus
Howe-Pronger
Desjardin-Timonen
Hatcher-Kapanen (I loved him on D)
Hextall,Parent
Coffey
does anyone remember when Paul Coffey was on the team? He gets an honorable mention for staying sober a couple times on the ice with the Flyers…
Briefly Remember
That is before Lindros ended his career with that blindside. Coffee was great elsewhere and can’t be on a flyer favorite list.
You mean “Coffey was great elsewhere.” Coffee is great everywhere!

I ain’t gonna lie; I’m addicted. I have a little machine at work which comes in quite handy.

Me, too. I have a Keurig at home and is has increased my coffee intake tenfold. Amazon Organic Fair Trade…yummmmm!

Both are excellent—love the Cafe Escapes Dark Chocolate hot chocolate. Green Mountain usu sucks but their Donut House is good as well.

Wow, this is great. My list:
Leclair/Lindros/Renberg (Mikael Renberg, my all time favorite Flyer, hands down)
Gagner/Primeau/Kerr
Prospal/Umberger/Recchi
Podein/Roenick/Tocchet
Howe/Pronger (my favorite non-Flyer, so he automatically made this just by being here)
Therien/Desjardins (I will always remember Therien’s domination of Jagr)
Niinimaa/Smith (I miss Gator)
Hextall (actually, forget Renberg, Hexy is the GOAT)
Boucher
Healthy Scratches: Dan Kordic, Pat Falloon, Shawn Antoski, Rob DiMaio, Todd Fedoruk, Karl Dykhuis
Suspension: Dave Brown
Jail: Craig MacTavish, Dan Quinn
Kent Manderville? Mike Ricci? Roman Checkmanek? Valeri Zelepukin? Jiri Dopita? Andy Delmore? Petr Svoboda? Sandy McCarthy? Dmitri Tertyshny? Marty Murray? Gino Odjick?
Just to name a few . . .

I have a Mike Ricci “vintage 1983” home white jersey. Wish he could have stuck around longer.
No one is mentioning Mike Maneluk and it breaks my heart. Ditto Jon Sim, Radovan Somik, Jody Hull, Peter White, Scott Daniels, Ryan McGill, Jason Bowen, Claude Boivin, Ryan “Oh Wait, I never Got Anywhere Close to the NHL” Sittler…
