I hope Bartecko is ok. Good think OKT isn’t a Flyer anymore, then we might have Europe hating on the Orange and Black as well. You never know, a Slovak fan might then compare the Flyers to Stalin.

nice one I read Bartecko might play today
More Flyers (well actually Phantoms) related:
Just thought I’d pass these along . . .
- A look at Phantoms’ winger Stefan Legein and the bright spot that he has been in ADK [Philly.com Sports].
- Wasn’t sure if this had been posted yet but Frank Seravalli does a “Phantoms’ roster inventory” [Frequent Flyers].
- Lastly, the youtube video of “Ole-Kristian Tollefsen tackle Lubos Bartecko.” DISCLAIMER: Pretty gross, just an FYI [Youtube].
Also,
…sorry for all these additions. I am putting off the exorbinant amount of work I need to be doing by getting lost the in the black hole of the World Wide Web.
- Flyers Goal Scored By… has a funny satirical piece about today’s USA v. SUI (or should I say USA v. SUX) game [FGSB].
- Beside Pronger, Richards and Timonen, the Flyers will resume practice at the Skate Zone tomorrow at 11am. Lavy is interested to see what shape the players will be in upon returning from break and highlights the penalty kill as one of the aspects he wants to see the Flyers “improve upon post-Olympics, going into the stretch run for the playoffs.” [CSN Philly]
- Not hockey related but wonderfully exciting: Delco Times Phillies beat writer, Ryan Lawrence, is providing updates from Spring Training in Clearwater. He says that “Halladay will face Utley, ibanez and Dom Brown tomorrow” and in an exhibition game the Phils will play against FSU next week that "Dubee has a “pretty good idea” who will start…" Hamels, maybe? [Twitter]
- Also not hockey related, but I know how excited some of us are about the Philly Union. They officially named their stadium today: PPL Park [Philadelphia Union].
Sorry, I am done now. I have certainly used up my quota of time spent on BSH this afternoon . . .
I thought Richards played quite well last night with Toews and Morrow. Let’s hope they can generate some good chances tonight against the Russians.

Sorry if you are Canadian but I am definitely pulling for Russia today. But only because the Canadians scare me more . . .
Bold prediction (sorry to my American friends): The winner of the Canada vs. Russia game today will win gold.

Pekka Rinne signed a two year extension today, meaning Dan Ellis is likely going to be on the market this summer.

Ya, I was wondering what Ellis would be asking for next year? He has a cap hit of $1.75 million this year. He is actually older than I thought at 29 and the most games he has played in a season was 44 in 2007-08. Career Stats: 2.62 GAA and a .913 SV%.
Was going to mention this. I did a bit of research and I’m not so sure about him now. I think although Nashville has been decidedly average for the past few years, their keeper tandem has worked well. But on his own I don’t think Ellis stands out. Especially if you consider that Nashville seem to play defensive hockey. I’m not 100% sure on how to explain his GVT, VUKOTA and what not.
Maybe you can offer something based on some advanced stats, Geoff?
All I can say for sure is that he is average at shootouts (0.500 win pct, 0.600 save pct)

There aren’t too many advanced stats for goalies. One stat I prefer is even-strength save percentage, since it eliminates a team’s penalty kill. There, he’s got a .925, tied for 16th with Brodeur among goalies with at least 20 GP. Some comparables:
Vokoun leads at .943, Luongo .934, Emery .930, Theodore .921, Ward and Price .919, Fleury .913.
Last year, (his worst of his three-year career) he had a .919 ESS%, better than Biron and Bryzgalov (.918), Huet .916, Theodore .913, Giguere .910, and Turco .908.
The year before (07-08) was his best, and he was tied for 13th among those with 30 GP. His .927 was equal to Vokoun and Biron, better than Backstrom, Lundqvist, Kiprusoff, Nabokov, Turco, Ward, Theodore, Miller, and Dipietro.
Basically, he is an above-average goalie who, at the right price, would be a solid 1-A, so long as he has someone to share playing time with.

Oh, this year Leighton’s ESS% for the Flyers is .926.

I would feel ok about a Ellis-Leighton combo. I’ve read some stuff over at On The Forecheck about him being a really good team guy, which the Flyers could always use more of.
If he signed for the right price of course. The Flyers are Nashville East, so that should help persuade him.
"NZFlyerfan"
What about an Emery-Ellis combination? I am not sold on Leighton and I have liked how Razor has played this year despite his injuries. While none have been spectacular, its nice to have 3 goalies that have been solid all season. It makes looking into signing a goalie difficult, but in a good way.
What about a Leighton-WeDon’tEvenNeedABackupLeightonIsSoGood combo?
I’m so sold on him at this point.
