Brendan Burke, brave son of Leafs' GM Brian, dies
Brendan Burke, the son of Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke, passed away on Friday from injuries suffered during a car accident in snow-ravaged Indiana. He was 21.
Burke made his homosexuality public in December and his bravery helped and continues to help people who suffer through the hardships of living a gay life in the world of sports.
Hockey is for everybody, and Brendan's courage should continue to remind us all of that fact.

Just terrible to hear. Again, condolences to Brian and his family, as well as to the family of the other person who didn’t survive the crash. As much as we don’t like the Leafs, I think one of the great things about the NHL and its fans is how the entire hockey community comes together in light of something like this (because Brendan and his story go well beyond a game of hockey).
I don’t know his son’s birth day, but whatever it is i say retire that number for the whole NHL. I know it sounds crazy, but that is the greatest respect anyone could do, It lose a son like that has to hurt, i came close to loosing my son a few time (he was born 3 months early) so I understand. I know the won’t retire the number but I hope a moment of respect for the days game will be great too.
