Tired & Confused
Well - another frustrating evening that left me tired & confused. Really unsure how this team goes into these droughts where they cant score. I really think it's time for Richards to go to a checking line (And don't tell me that him being with Gagne constitutes a checking line because they are so responsible defensively). I honestly don't think it would hurt his scoring much if he played with JVR and Asham considering a large % of his points are PP points anyway.
Although Giroux needs to realize he can shoot the puck in rather than deke it in some nights he is our most creative offensive presence by far. He needs top 6 minutes. Maybe he has some sort of magic that can get Simon "I'm not worried about my slump" Gagne a few tap ins and get him going.
Also, I'm not sure how you do this but Briere needs to play in the middle. Why can't Carter play wing? If it's because of his faceoff % well....he can still take all the faceoffs playing wing and them simply switch with Briere after the puck drop.
Don't be surprised to see Leino in the lineup. It is an understated trade but we got rid of OKT for a player who Mike Babcock said just last year was one of the best offensive players he ever had to cut. He may not amount to anything but worth taking a shot on since we really never gave anything up.
Anyway, apologies for the meandering message. Huge week ahead where we need at least a split with Jersey & a sweep against the Habs.

I seriously don’t think this team is going to be able to beat New Jersey at all if they play the way they played the last two games. If they can make a rookie goalie look like Martin Brodeur, they’re going to end up making Brodeur look like Jesus in net. I definitely think some line shuffling is in order. Not sure how any of that is going to help them finish though, unless Carter suddenly remembers how to hit the net.

“unless Carter suddenly remembers how to hit the net”
I wonder… maybe a position change as refrenced in the post help him find the scoring touch?
Just maaaaaaaaybe

Good point. I missed that in the post somehow. Moving Carter off of center might actually help him get his scoring touch back. Hell, it can’t hurt.

For the record, Jersey is playing like utter crap right now too.

The kid played his balls off! How is it the Flyers fault that a rookie goalie played the best game of his young carrier in his second game? We “made” him look like Brodeur not because we were bad, but because we had chances and he came up big EVERY TIME (except one). 40 shots and an L, and our offense is horrible? I hate all the negativity on this site. Everyone loses sight of the fact that two years ago, we barely made the playoffs as a 6, got hot at the right time, beat the 3, beat the 1 and ran out of gas to the 2. If we get in anything can happen, and I don’t really care what anyone else says. This team has 7 legitimate scorers, that all happen to be cold (not including JVR); a great checking line, 2 elite d-men who have been battle tested (Pronger everywhere, and Kimmo has been a horse the last two years in the playoffs and through out his international play), and a goalie who’s been there before. Just watch the hockey and enjoy. This team will lose every once in a while! Relax!

And the awful goaltender from Edmonton the game before, I suppose the Flyers got unlucky and he just happened to have an awesome night?
By the way, the kid in Minnesota did not play well. Rebounds all over the place, juggling pucks, etc. The Flyers just played like crap.

A 28-25-3 record doesn’t show losing every once in a while. That is losing 50% of the time

All I want to see it shots from the point. I really tired of seeing Briere and Carter play catch along the side boards.

They do take shots from the point — all too often. The biggest problem with their shot selection is that they’re all from the perimeter. That’s not how you score.
