I know he is the worst teammate I've played with. And I know (the Rangers) feel the same way. That's all I'm going to say.

LOL

read the caption on the photo from that picture from that article how biased can you be “Back from benching, Sean Avery fights Flyers, Scott Hartnell as Rangers roll Sunday.”

yeah he fought him all right NY media should all be fired

Rare that you see an NHL player come out and throw another NHL player under the bus like that. But Avery will bring that out in people…good for Lappy for actually saying it though.

All I really needed to know about Sean Avery I learned from the “sloppy seconds” incident:

1. Draws attention to himself unnecessarily
2. His teammates don’t respect him (Marty Turco’s comments in particular were priceless)
3. Is a self-aggrandizing prick

Interned for Vogue…

j/k

His “sloppy seconds” comment was what finally made me completely digusted in the guy. It’s not just because I’m a woman, either, because quite frankly: for her to be his sloppy seconds, he would have had to be her first—and I think we all know that isn’t true. His statement is therefore asinine and was only to draw attention to himself as you said.

The fact that he asked “Is there a camera here?” really pissed me off. “Look at me! I’m the most hated player in the league! ‘Sloppy seconds!’ OOOOOOOOH!!!”

I’m prepared for the scorn, but that comment actually made me laugh out loud. Yeah, he’s a scumbag. But he was trying to do his job – get the other team’s better players off their game. Was it the most tactful (respectable) way? No, not at all. And it was pretty dangerous, because the likelihood he would succeed in causing violence was rather high. Suspending him for that game made perfect sense.

But, I thought the comment was hilarious. And there have been a lot worse things a) done by Avery; b) done by hockey players; c) done by athletes; d) said by hockey players; and e) said by athletes. Plus, Cuthbert pisses me off in 24.

Oh, I don’t like her, either. It’s just that he’s such a media whore and I know he was trying to do his job—but I just think that tactic—people’s personal lives—should be off limits. What if he’d gone the route of outing some hockey player to get him off his game (just to pick the most extreme example I can)?

I’m all for trying to get other players off their game, but keep it on the ice. Plus, you know if he had played that night and Phaneuf went after him, he’d have done the same thing he did against Hartnell yesterday.

Proof that Lappy is right, lest we forget.

In cricket we call it sledging, but it never gets personal other than a slight about someones hair colour/pot belly etc. Crossing that line is something that should never be done.

She’s just a horrible actress. And you’re right: on 24 she was always getting herself into situations where Kieffer had to come save her needlessly. I sort of wanted her to get killed off.

AMEN! I love the “sloppy seconds” comment. The fact that the NHL suspended him is just a complete joke. All due respect to Ms. DoubleH and Mike5, but that was some funny stuff right there. I understand your point, but come on, loosen up a bit. Carcillo has the “look at me routine” all the time and we eat it up. I realize it was personal and over the line, but damn, that’s what makes it so funny.

I’m completely okay with suspending him for that game. If they didn’t suspend him for that game, I’d be scared to see the consequences.

that would have made it 10x funnier. To see Phaneuf litterally wipe the ice with the guy would have been awesome. Sucks that the NHL had to save the guy from himself. Sometimes we just need a little frontier justice.

Carcillo has the "look at me routine" all the time and we eat it up.

He keeps it on the ice, though. There’s a difference. And off the ice, Carcillo may answer a question if asked, but he doesn’t do the “Is there a camera? I just want to say something real quick” routine.

I like agitators and I like to be entertained. I even liked Matthew Barnaby back in the day because, as much as he was public enemy no. 1, I knew that I would love to have him on the Flyers. I cannot say the same thing about Avery. While he may be an effective agitator on the ice, off the ice he goes around insulting people.

I completely understand your point and while I agree that Avery is an a-hole and crosses the line, I also find it hysterical. I don’t like Avery, one bit, he’s a jag-off, but he does make me laugh. He’s almost like the chad johnson in the NFL. Most people hate the guy, but you can’t help but pay attention to him in between games. He’s entertaining.

Also, I don’t want some sanitized, cookie cutter league. I want guys like Avery that make douches of themselves, it keeps it interesting. If we just keep everything “on the ice”, then it’s really, really boring.

I’d argue Ochocinco and Avery are a lot different. Ochocinco is hysterical and doesn’t come across as mean-spirited at all. While he’s attention-seeking, he isn’t an a-hole. He’s just awesome, IMO.

Child please.

I feel the same way. I like my share of characters who can be entertaining off the ice, no doubt. But someone doesn’t have to be an asshole to be entertaining.

I guess it’s a matter of perception. I don’t mind the a-holes off the ice either. Not everyone can pull off the Jerry Seinfeld act. You have to appreciate a guy that acts like a d-bag as well. You don’t have to like him, but at least you can be laugh at his shenanigans. I mean, seriously, how rich is the endless amount of “sloppy seconds” jokes you can make?

I don’t know. If someone said that about your sister or girlfriend or Mama, would you feel differently? I wish they would have let him play so Phaneuf could finally give the guy the killshot he has had coming to him for years.

no, not really. I mean, I’m not saying it makes it right, I’m sure it’s upsetting, but we are talking about public figures. It’s not like Cuthbert doesn’t get lampooned for being a shitty actress etc. This is the world of celebrity. I’m sorry, that’s the price that comes from fame sometimes. Like you though, I wish he got to play so Phaneuf could have buried him. That would have been doubly funny.

I dunno about the whole look at me thing when you compare Carcillo. Jordan Tootoo fought a good fight against Lappy and raised his hands last night. It was awesome, you could even see the 2 say to each other enough is enough(I rewound it and it was awesome the respect they showed each other) and Lappy mouthed what looked like good fight. That’s respect for the game, and at the same time putting on an entertaining show for the fans. Avery’s show is a circus and an embarrassment.

Pronger broke his face last night. Poor guy.

Broke my nose lastnight with a high stick by Pronger. No biggie though as its been broken many other times. Big 2 points ! Yall enjoy the fight

Wasn’t a high stick, really… Tootoo is just short. But Pronger definitely intended on doing it. He was pissed after someone nullified his shot attempt in the third.

It’s the respect Tootoo and Lappy had for each other is/should be a MAJOR part of the game. What Avery did (and continues to do) is the opposite.
