Robert Esche and Brian Boucher would like to protest DGB’s claim. They had .916 and .918 playoff save percentages respectively. It wasn’t Esche’s fault the offense scored five goals in four losses to Tampa.

the sad thing is that I’d say their goaltending has been missing since long before 1996.

much, much longer.

1989 was really our last good year of goaltending. Since then we’ve had guys go on hot streaks – from Pete Peeters in November of 1990 to Michael Leighton today. But we’ve had no real answer in the net since 1989.

Wait a minute… no “answer…” I KNOW WHO SHOULD PLAY GOAL!

Yeah, me too.

Yeah, I was going to go with 1987 but that seemed too extreme. So I just picked the year that Ron Hextall died.

Down Goes Brown - Unapologetically nostalgic for the past. Brutally realistic about the present. Grudgingly optimistic about the future.

It’s one thing to have a goalie put up a good post-season (throw ‘08 Biron in that mix), it’s another to go into the playoffs not asking “will the goalie hold up”?

exactly. When was the last time there seriously wasn’t a story involving Flyers goaltending anywhere in the NHL? I vote for 1992, the first time Hextall was traded.

When no one cared about the awesome Roussel/Soderstrom combination?

yeah, i was just looking at the numbers over at hockeydb, man those were some awful years, even the couple of years after the 1989 run were pretty bad. Ken Wregget/Pete Peters dynasty.

I literally jumped for joy the day we traded Ken Wregget. I could not stand him.

I actually have a soft spot in my heart for Roman Cechmanek

He was a great goalie but a lousy teammate.

Funniest blog quote I read all year—it was on another blog so I won’t name it—was in regard to Ray Emery’s goalie helmet with the all-time Flyer goalie greats. Someone said “Roman Cechmanek’s on it, too, but he’s so far out of position you can’t see him.”

I LOL’d.

Assuming you mean no trade rumors or “how crappy is our goalie” stories, probably back in the Parent era.

so did Tim Thomas’s deal with the devil finally expire?

It was revoked when Beelzebub realized Thomas played for the Boston Bruins, not the UCLA Bruins, because nobody in Boston has a soul to trade.

Neither does anyone in LA. My, how the mighty have fallen in the PAC-10.
