None of this is really surprising, even if it is a bit frustrating. Wonder who will play: Ville Leino or Arron Asham.

On The Fly

They just reported that Asham and Powe are in while Leino and Cote sit. Also confirmed Leighton in net.

From Frank Seravalli:

Lines will be:

Hartnell – Carter – Briere
Gagne – Richards – Carcillo
van Riemsdyk – Giroux – Asham
Powe – Betts – Laperriere

look, you guys know I have no love for Carcillo, but I want someone to explain to me why he’s on the 2nd line. I know they’ve played well together, but seriously, is Giroux or JVR incapable of playing RW? Is that what I’m missing, that we have such a derth of talent on the RW because we don’t have Lupul or Knuble anymore?

I like Carcillo on that line a lot. But having Giroux on the third line makes that a threat. If you move Giroux up to Gags and Richie’s, you have this:

JVR-Powe-Carcillo
Asham-Betts-Laperriere

That third line has only one guy who can put the puck in the net, and even then, he’s not ready to be “the guy” on that line. The fourth line looks fine, but the third line is significantly weaker.

so does anyone think we will see a Leino-Asham-Powe rotation through the lineup for the next 5-8 games to see what works best?

I think it’s more likely there’s an injury in the meantime, but otherwise, I agree.
