Adding to the Phantoms loss, look at the way the tying goal went in:
The tying goal came on a bizarre bounce with 2:55 remaining. Aaron Palushaj flung a shot from the blue line into the Phantoms zone. The puck hit Kevin Marshall in the back as he stood by the right post. It deflected into the net past Teslak, who was covering the other side.

RE: Ovechkin
He’s dirty, I don’t care how you spin it. His history of questionable plays is evidence enough that he doesn’t give two cents worth of care for the well being of the guys playing against him.
Is he a great player? Absolutely. Do i love a guy that plays with heart and passion? Definitely. Do I like AO? Yes, he’s one of my favorite guys to watch. I still think he’s dirty.

dirty vs. reckless I don’t think I am ready to call AO dirty. That implies intent to injury I think he just plays reckless and he is so strong that people get hurt. Cooke is dirty AO wouldn’t make that hit, it is AO exuberant style that causes problems, he is like the Tazmanian Devil out there and if you get caught in his cyclone you are going to get banged up. He needs to play more under control.
Yeah, because a slewfoot is just what happens when you are “exuberant”.
furthermore, if you just looked at his file of cheapshots and didn’t know who it was, you would call the guy dirty. He gets the benefit of the doubt because he scores a gazillion goals a season.

I said “think” but his hit on Campbell fits the reckless not dirty i do remember him going out of his way to try to kill Carter once. Still with the slewfoot video you put up to play Devil’s Advocate he was in pursuit of the puck chasing Peverley down from behind trying not to lose that batter it wasn’t away from the play. I am just saying I don’t think you guys are wrong but I think Crosby is a dirtier player more cheap shots.
So ye of the mo flyer faithful than I, will this current goalie debacle change the org.‘s stance on acquiring a goalie? I mean i don’t think an average goalie is necessarily bad (as long as you get him for that avg. price) but that’s only if you have more than 2 kick -ass defensemen..like 4 or 5 maybe. That might not be feasible though.
Re: The Seabrook/Perry/Wisniewski fustercluck
Wheel of Justice, turn turn turn, tell us the lesson we should learn…
If it were up to me, Wiz would get 2 games. The hit was dirty (a jumping charge? Oi vey), but Wiz doesn’t have history to the best of my knowledge. Let him know that stuff won’t be tolerated, but don’t throw the entire Encyclopaedia Britannica at him. Seabrook’s hit on Perry was stupid, but I don’t think it should deserve anything more than a roughing penalty, because Seabrook committed to the hit before Perry lost the puck, and it was bad body angles that made that hit worse than it should have been.

1) Nick Boynton was back on re-entry waivers earlier this week. Why the fuck the Flyers didn’t pick him up is beyond me. Even if you just made him the 7th dman and sent Bartulis down to get more playing time.
2) The Flyers declined to comment on Leighton’s MRI yesterday. At this point, I will be mildly surprised if he dresses again this season.
I bet Holmgren is happier than a pig in mud. He just lost his 2nd starting goalie, he’s now forced to turn to Boosh and when the team blows up in the first round, he can just point to injuries and chalk that up as the reason another Flyer season went down the drain.
Maybe he can convince someone in the off-season that the work of Micheal Leighton wasn’t all smoke and mirrors and trade him for some picks.

Did someone forget to take that left turn at Albuquerque?
So I’m lost here….who’s in goal next year Leighton, Boucher or some else? If there’s no one on the farm, then why didn’t we get Vou – the guy from fucking Florida? I mean I don’t want to over spend on a goalie but unless we can clone Kimmo and Pronger we need at least two more upper tier defensemen to make up for the short comings of an average goalie. Short of that I don’t know how much you can rob Peter to pay Paul. (no pun intended) I imagine there are more centers than goalies so unless he’s got a handful of good d-men up his sleeve (or are Carle and Coburn good and just having off years? ) then shouldn’t we have gotten the panthers dude? I was working under the assumption that if we’re going to keep Leighton as a starter next year they had plans to add quality to the defense so it made sense to keep carter …however would that even work with Laviolette’s system which I read requires an exceptional goalie to pull off, or at least someone who can handle rebounds better cause you’ll be short handed defensively alot?….then you need the panther goalie who from what I hear is an above average goalie..Right? Crikey I feel like I am weaving quite the Cat’s Cradle here.
I’ll try to unravel a little bit:
The Flyers only have one goalie signed for next season: Brian Boucher. Ray Emery, Michael Leighton, and Johan Backlund are all UFA. Boucher’s backup tonight, Jeremy Duchesne, is an RFA after the season. The Phantoms starter last night, Michael-Lee Teslak, is also an RFA at seasons’s end.
Tomas Vokoun (from Florida) is one of the top-5 goalies in the league. There are problems though. One, he’s very expensive ($5.7 mil cap hit) and the Panthers rightfully want(ed) a lot in return (i.e. Jeff Carter).
There is almost no way to get more “upper tier” defensemen, especially in the mold of Timonen and Pronger, unless the team loses one of their top-6 forwards – either in trade or to create salary space to sign the “upper tier” defensemen. And then you have to ask whether it was worth it.

Thanks man…I like D-men, they seem like the smartest guys on the ice and its a less than glorious position esp the skating backwards bit. I’d stack my farm with them…meaning it cost prohibitive to buy all of them. it ’d be cool to see what you could do with six top shelf d-men and an average goalie if they only had to deal with 15 shots a night…
you have to score goals in this league I don’t care what you do or who you have on the blueline with all the special teams play a goalie getting 10 SO a year is long gone so you have to score and be good on the PP to win. Plus it is all about Ice Time as evidenced by the Olympics some guys like Pronger are just not as effective without their 28-30 minutes a game. The teams with the best offense are the best teams CHI, WSH, PITT, SJS. Also one thing all the Stanley Cup winners since the lockout have had in common was being in the top 10 in the league with a goals per game over 3.
2006 – CAR ranked 3rd 3.49 G/G
2007 – ANA ranked 9th 3.10 G/G
2008 – DET ranked 3rd 3.07 G/G
2009 – PIT ranked 6th 3.15 G/G
on the defensive side goals against per game
2006 CAR ranked 19th 3.15 GA/G
2007 ANA ranked 7th 2.42 GA/G
2008 DET ranked 1st 2.18 GA/G
2009 PIT ranked 17th 2.84 GA/G
in 2006 CAR defeated the best defensive team CAL in the FINALS
In 2007 the top MIN and DAL ranked 1st and 3rd in GA/G out in 1st round they were ranked 19th and 22nd in G/G respectively VAN who beat DAL that year was ranked 6th in GA/G was then quickly despatched by the better offensive team ANA who was ranked 9th G/G whereas VAN was ranked 21st with a 2.65 G/G.
In 2008 the 4 worst offensive teams to make the playoffs NJD, NYR, BOS and ANA only the NYR made it out of the 1st round because they played the lesser offensive team the NJD ranked 27th with 2.46 G/G vs. the NYR ranked 25th with a 2.50 G/G. The NYR were then rolled in 5 games by PITT. NJD, NYR, BOS and ANA were ranked 5th, 4th, 9th and 2nd in GA/G.
And last year the Western Conference Final DET and CHI feature the two best offensive teams from the conference DET ranked 1st in G/G, CHI ranked 4th. And in the East PITT vs. WSH featured teams ranked 3rd and 6th.
Defense wins championships is a thing of the past the name of the game is scoring goals.
But what did those teams do in the playoffs? All rankings are out of 16
2006 Carolina 5th in offense, 3rd in defense
2007 Anaheim 4th in offense, 3rd in defense
2008 Detroit 1st in offense, 1st in defense (with a ridiculous 1.86 ga/g)
2009 Pittsburgh 2nd in offense, 5th in defense
You have to be good in both if you want to win the Cup.

Hes getting his MRI today, just so you don’t jump the gun. Plus, hes skating an standing on it, so it can’t be that bad. I say he misses say 3-4 games most.

I don’t know exactly what the CBA rules are so don’t kill me if I get this wrong. But would signing Boyton put us at the 50 player mark, meaning we couldn’t sign anyone else including a goalie if Boosh (god forbid) gets injured? Leaving us with a nicked up Backlund and Duchesne.
You are right about that, Boynton would have been contract number 50.

anyone else find it odd that everytime a Flyer goalie this season has talked extension, he suddenly goes down with a season ending injury?

Thankfully Boosh is already signed for next year, then.

I was just going to say that. Don’t sign Boosh to any extensions. Don’t even give him an extension cord, extensions for his hair, or anything else loosely having to do with “extensions” of any kind. Don’t even buy him the old “Extendar” action figure from He-Man.

Any one else get the feeling Boosh stands on his head tonight? He was great before Leights took over, the offense just couldn’t score.

confidence in Boosh

Four of his losses occurred after he entered a game in relief and his team was trailing. It should also be noted that he has had little offensive support _ the Flyers have scored a total of eight goals in his 10 losses as a starter. In his 14 starts, he has a 2.42 goals-against average, which is actually better than Leighton’s (2.48) or Emery’s (2.64).
Well it is now 100% Boucher. I guess it is the exact point where it goes horribly bad for Brian as it has the other 35 times it was his job to lose. We will now be reminded why he was brought here as a back up that not many other teams even had interest in last summer. This guy has had the most unfortunate career in so many ways I feel for the guy and am hoping for the best. C’est la vie! Pourtant une autre année sans Lord Stanley’s Cup!
