Rumblings out of Canada that Hamuis [sic] to Flyers deal done but not announced. "Not true at all," says Flyers GM P. Holmgren this morning

…and Sutter is “unequivocally not trading Dion Phaneuf”, remember? I don’t know much about your GM, but I won’t buy it until he’s traded elsewhere or the deadline passes.

As I mentioned in the morning thread, there’s no reason they’d have a deal complete and not announce it. The closest they could be to having it done is if one of the players involved has an NTC and they haven’t agreed to waive yet. Otherwise, some part of the deal is still being negotiated.

Also, with a game in Tampa tonight and Miami tomorrow, the Flyers would want this deal announced as soon as possible.

You don’t think they are waiting on Cote and Syvret to clear waivers?

Thats exactly what I explained in the morning thread. I’m pretty sure they didn’t have to after 5pm last night, and I’m 100% sure they don’t have to wait now. They can do a deal this second and have until 5pm today to get under the cap.

So, no, they’re not waiting for the waiver determinations.

Sorry, didn’t read the morning links comment section.

You’re right, though, that makes sense. I wonder if Gagne or Hartnell are actually part of a deal, because taking Parent alone makes less than no sense.

Or the deal just isn’t actually complete. There could be two deals Nashville is deciding between. Or even two deals the Flyers are deciding between. Nash/Phil may have a tentative agreement for their deal, but one or both are not ready to pull the trigger. Or they may have an agreement contingent on some second deal which isn’t done….

There are a lot of possibilities but the report that the deal is done just not announced doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Mario is correct. The deal can be finalized even without the cap space available at the time of finalization but the cap space must be figured out by the end of the regular season, at least that is how I understand it. I could be completely wrong though.

I bet Emery stays on LITR until the end of the year and then gets called up for the playoffs where the salary cap is no longer a factor.

doesn’t cap space need to be determined by 5PM of game day?

Well, no. the cap is calculated daily. He’s just thinking the team has to get under the cap by 5 pm, which is what I thought.

Gagne is a concussion time bomb and butter soft—-no way Poile takes that deal straight up for Hammer.

Which is what makes this all the stranger.

taking Parent back seems to make no sense either for a team that needs scoring…these two teams don’t seem very well matched to deal, imo.

Gagne is a concussion time bomb

Unfortunately, true.

and butter soft

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Perhaps butter soft is too harsh, but

that is just one perception of him.

Is this what Holmgren is going to waste his next 28 hours on? Getting used by Nashville for Hamhuis while there are a lot of more important positions and concerns on this team then yet another 4th defenseman. I know no one respects Eklund but he and other nameless sources are saying Nashville is shopping and dealing with at least three other teams for Hamhuis right now. Just like Kovalchuk, Holmgren can’t afford to be mesmerized by one deal that isn’t even his to have.

I wouldn’t assume this is the only thing Homer’s working on. It’s highly visible and causing a lot of buzz, which would make it a perfect smokescreen for other deals.

That said, I wouldn’t expect huge deals – we simply don’t have the (moveable) assets for major roster shifts. Relatively minor tweaks are what will happen with this roster.
