Backlund
I was very interested in seeing how Backlund performed pre-season, and he looked a little shaky. Understanding that this is his first year goaltending in a North American hockey system, I was fine with it. I don't know the Phantoms record, but I've heard that a large part of whatever success they've had is due to the goaltending of Backlund. My question to people on this site is, what are the chances that Backlund could make his way into our goaltending next year? I know that goaltending going into next season is a big question mark, so I was wondering what people thought.

He’s a UFA after this season, and I’d like the Flyers to re-sign him, but as long as Boucher is here, Backlund with be in the AHL. Quite simply, he needs to play. He’s not ready to be a starter in the NHL, and having him as the backup should only be in case of emergency.
Broad Street Hockey - Makin' it look mean since 1967.
I’d be fine with that; maybe they could resign him for two years and have him develop his game with the Phantoms while Boucher serves as back-up next year (serving the second year of his contract). Backlund, if he performs well, could serve as our back-up two years from now or could serve as trade bait come next year’s deadline.
