Hey, an opening round we have a chance of winning, kinda/sorta!
Was at the game today and had the great pleasure of meeting Travis and Geoff during the first intermission. Travis said that the game would go to a shootout, and he was right.
Can’t wait until Wednesday!
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
Wish I wasn’t, but hey… I’ll take the outcome

Damn I was there too haha. Our whole section was terrified of the SO, but in the end we get at least 4 more games.

Please knock out Brodeur in the first round again. I’m sick of him being so overrated when you consider the team he’s had in front of him the last 20 years.
Mauldin Played for Columbus a few years ago, He has six career games.
no he really isn’t i guess you’ve never heard of players like parise kovalchuck, and elias. Or aware there was an NHL season last year and without Brodeur the devils were still among the top 3 teams of the conference. If anything Marty blew it for the devils last year by coming back.(not to knock him down, but clemmenson had great chemistry with the team. This should be quite the series though, I wouldn’t be surprised if it went to 7 games.
It all starts and ends with Brodeur. I hadn’t heard of Kovalchuk with the Devils since late last year, or Parise with the Devils before 2006ish. But the Devils were still winning, crazy!
Is that what you “ugh’d” about Mario, or was it the last sentence? In my opinion, either the Devils will win easily, or the Flyers will win easily. Depends on who the Flyers decide they want to be

I was commenting on the idiocy of saying Brodeur is overrated. Not even that he’s past his prime, but that his entire career he’s been overrated.
I just spent a couple minutes, and I can’t even think of a dumber argument in another sport to compare it to.
MarioD wrong again Marty has only won 3 CUPs and yet owns every record an NHL goaltending history. The best goalie of all time should own at least 6-10 cups. Anything less than should be considered a failure.
Yep and we can always count on you to believe everything that I write. I was trying to goad you into another block quoted comment arguing the obvious merits of Martin Brodeur’s Hall of Fame career. Full of statistics and records comparing him to Patrick Roy and Jaques Plante but you didn’t take the bait. Damn I will try not to be so over the top next time.
Not your longest post, but very pointed.

I definitely understand. Maybe it’s not a “we deserve”, but instead that just a select few guys earned some good karma?

The scariest thing is we could end up being a dark horse. If this team actually got it together for a few weeks, who knows what could happen.
Yea, anyone notice how this Flyers team is eerily similar to the 05-06 Oilers that lost in the finals?
The extent of my knowledge on the Oilers season is what I’ve been able to find out from Wikipedia, but both teams finished the season with 41 wins, both had Chris Pronger (who has 1 less point this season than in ’06), both seemed to stumble into the playoffs (Oilers went 5-4-1 in the last 10), and both teams had seemed inconsistent throughout the regular season.
Are there any other parallels I’m missing here?
The problem is that Edmonton had the 8th best PK unit in the league that year, and their D allowed the fewest shots against per game.
They also had 47 games started by Jussi Markannen and Michael Morrison. Then they got Dwayne Roloson, and he turned a good defensive team into a great one.
Not parallel, but a pretty major difference. Sorry to rain on your parade.

Who? Oh, the one I kept blowing by……that tall indian kid……..just kidding. You should have come to PJ’s. The place went nuts when we won.
So are the rest of us who couldn’t go gonna get some feedback from the game?

Maybe, but I can’t even tell you what the score was because I was too busy taking pictures. It might have to be a collaborative recap fanpost or something.

We stopped keeping score after a while, but at the end we played a short game up to three and orange won 3-1.

TSN is basically the Canadian equivalent of ESPN (I think ESPN actually owns 20% of TSN). So no, unfortunately it’s not on Comcast.

I am also hoping Pronger goes Scott Stevens on Kovalchuk and this series becomes the anti-2000 Flyers Devils series, my personal darkest memory as a Flyers fan.
Kovalchuk? Make it Parise and I am all with you.

by Mitchell Green on Apr 11, 2010 10:45 PM EDT up reply actions
I can’t agree with you there, because I was part of the group that vowed not to boo Parise for the rest of the year after the Olympics; at least not boo him as an individual, anyway. Head hunting seems like it might violate that…
by DragonGirl0583 on Apr 11, 2010 11:30 PM EDT up reply actions
If it means the Flyers are able to beat the Devils, I don’t care one bit. If I could take one Devil forward out of the equation, it would be Parise, hands down. He scares me more than Kovalchuk . . .

dont be pissed cause Lindros couldnt keep his head up. Wow im surprised at you’re lindros loyalty, considering he said F-U and went to the rangers. That comment alone just shows you’re lack of understanding on why the flyers cant loose the goon image
To be fair, there is at least a portion of the fanbase that believes Lindros didn’t really say F-U to the fans, but rather to Clarkie, the trainers, and the front office. Chris’ statement didn’t really say anything about Lindros loyalty anyway; when you look at what happened to the team that day, it’s still a dark day even if you hated Lindros when he was here.

by HankMonahan on Apr 12, 2010 12:52 PM EDT up reply actions
I don’t want to loose our “goon image”. The fact that we are not embracing that image any more is causing us more problems than not. We still don’t get calls and everyone thinks our team is goony even this team is fairly small especially by Flyers standards and doesn’t hit anyone because we are afraid of penalties. Our tough guy is Dan Carcillo at 6ft 200lbs a light middle weight at best. We are dealing with all the negative aspects of being a goon reputation without any of the positives. Intimidation, fear especially on home ice. The brass should stop trying to conform the every changing rules of the NHL and just play hard ass hard hitting Flyers hockey regardless of the consequences.
look at the Cook play from weeks ago, then look at the Richards hit from the beginning of the season, then look at the Stevens hit. Very similar, no. Now im not one to judge a hit as dirty or not, but all three were blindside hits to the head, and in my book, is considered dirty.

The NHL begs to differ and the Steven on Lindros hit in on the video of highlighting how to legally apply a shoulder hit to the head of another player. The fact that I am even writing that
legally apply a shoulder hit to the head of another playermakes my head spin.
Here is the video courtesy of Puck Daddy.

You are completely delusional. The Flyers organization said F-U to Lindros and then pit him against the lure of its greatest player in order to stem the tide of a contrary image. Then, in the sad physical condition he was in after being abused by the Flyers and their inept training/medical staff, the Flyers fleeced the idiotic Rangers into giving the Flyers 3 players and a draft choice.
Just Call Me "M"!
CSN with JJ and likely Bill Clement all series.
That makes this schedule even better. I don’t need to listen to Pierre McGuire screaming “what a defensive play by Mike Richards”, Eddie Olczyk explaining that Ilya Kovalchuk is dynamic, and Mike Milbury babbling during intermissions about how Jeremy Roenick and Joe Thornton are stupid.

Trying to decide whether to go to game 1 or game 3.
Go to school near the rock and going there makes sense logistically speaking, but i coming down to philly for game 3 would be awesome in its own way. decisions, decisions.
Both, of course.

Shit
great nothing on versus I don’t get to see any playoff games of the flyers.
Note that ours is the only series with no games nationally televised in the US. I’m thrilled to be able to stick with JJ, but seriously? You’re going to air at least 3 games nationally for every other series, and zero for this one?

It’s just the snub involved, ya know? We’re the only division rivalry, NJ won the division not Pitt, etc. There’s no reason for this to be the only series not shown to a wide audience, it just sends a bad message.

I guess its because I live in Philly, but I am overjoyed that I dont have to watch a game on VS. Best news yes

You would never have to watch a game on Versus in the first round. Versus games are blacked out in local markets in the first round. Now NBC is a different story, but luckily, we did not get picked for any NBC games this round.
Proudly supporting a Flyers team with "no honor".
I think that only applies to the Joined in progress ones on the west coast, I think the others have to watch the Vs feed locally. Could be wrong, but that’s what I thought.
by DragonGirl0583 on Apr 12, 2010 2:04 PM EDT up reply actions
In the first round, I don’t think U.S. market has games exclusively on Versus. For example, even though every game in the Pittsburgh-Ottawa series is going to be shown on Versus, fans in Pittsburgh will be forced to hear Paul Steigerwald continue to joke about plane crashes for the entire series. It’s only in the 2nd round that Versus starts getting some exclusive games.
Proudly supporting a Flyers team with "no honor".
You are correct, I believe. An article I read yesterday gave me a completely different impression, so I was mistaken. I found another article just now explaining how the Vs contract works, and that says that the first round is non exclusive, but the second round 2 complete series become exclusive, and so on.

I hate the Pens and their broadcast crew as much as anyone (believe me, I get FSN Pitt at my college and watch some random Pens games when I’m bored and Flyers are not on), but what on earth did that immature comment add to our discussion about how playoff games are broadcast?
Proudly supporting a Flyers team with "no honor".
I will take any opportunity to throw mud at fsn pittsburgh…
as far as this playoff tv fiasco, pretty typical stuff… two years ago, the same thing happened, i think one game was blocked from directv center ice… any of you local csn people will be happy but this battle between directv and comcast has taken a toll on the quality games i get in high definition. Last year if you can remember, 1st round pens-flyers was all on versus… just makes me sick, put on your lipstick cindy
I take it that NHL Network won’t be carrying the games? Because that is the only way I will be able to watch it since I live in Oregon.
Looks like us west coasters are going to have to live with Justin tv for the first round.

This is gonna be really weird, but anyone else in the state college area looking to watch the games? I have all pens fans for friends, and well going to the bar by oneself and screaming at the television would be a large mistake

Thats pretty shitty.
It wasn’t that long ago that road playoff games would be broadcast over the air.
I recall sitting in my dorm room, about to move out the next day, cable already disconnected, using rabbit ears to watch the 6 OT game in 2000.
For those of us with Center Ice, do you think they will broadcast the play off games?

Am I the only one amused by the fact that this series is 10 years after that ill-fated Eastern Conference Finals. Sure it is not the same round, but the fact that the Flyers and Devils are meeting in the playoffs 10 years after one of the most infamous playoff series is Flyers history has more than a bit excited.
Then again, maybe my view is a bit skewed because I spent Game 7 in the First Union Center sitting 100 feet behind Brian Boucher.
