Saul Holmgren's Conversion
Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out threats against the Flyers players. He went to the media and told them, "There are certain guys on this team that are going to be back here next year, and there are certain guys who aren't." As he neared the Wachovia Center on his daily commute, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard voices say to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute us?"
"Who are you guys?" Saul asked.
"We are the Flyers' fan base, whom you are persecuting," they replied. "Now get up and go into your office, and you will be told what you must do."
Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing wrong with his team. And so Ed Snider blessed him and said, "You are called Paul, and upon your indecisiveness I build my team."
As we saw in Sam Donnellon's article, Paul Holmgren has decided that enough is enough. (Something tells me Mr. Snider helped him to draw that conclusion.) At any rate, next season likely will be Holmgren's last as GM if he doesn't make changes.
Here is the Flyers' cap chart / roster for next year. As we all know, there are pending UFAs / RFAs. And as Homer suggested, the team will have a different look and feel next year. We all have our own ideas about who should and shouldn't be here, but who do you think will be back next year, and who will NOT be back?
Here are my picks. They do not necessarily represent what I want to happen, but what I think WILL happen.
Back in (Orange and) Black for 2010
That's it. Contract talks aside, I expect an overhaul of the defense and goaltending. I honestly expect them to try to move Briere as well, and I think they'll view Cote and Asham as redundant since they'll have Carcillo and Lappy in the lineup.
What are your thoughts? I'm not asking who the Flyers will bring in - rather, who will they ship out?
